The high-resolution 30 second interval loops are going to be very helpful in identifying developing convergence zones (Florida seabreeze) and waves.

Does anyone know when the public will start seeing these images daily?

I hope to see pictures of the earth with the eclipse's umbra clearly
shown. I'll be in Casper, WY when it passes by.

If you read the story, it says "... GOES-16 is expected to go operational in November, approximately one year after its launch."

Dan,
Looks like it won't be operational until after the August eclipse as Dan Daly pts out. Alternatively, you can use the GOES-EAST at the NOAA site, as you probably know. Here is the link to the Casper coverage: http://www.ssd..noaa.gov/goes/east/wfo/cys/vis.jpg

Go to the loop for your region to see images very 15 minutes or so. Here is an example of the earlier 2013 eclipse in China as to what you might expect to see this summer.
