I'm a Nimbus driver in Australia, but I just had this message sent through
the chat email of my gliding club. www.ddsc.org.au

Today 17/12/03 Jon Durand Jnr. Footlaunched from the gold coast hinterland
sight " Beachmont" and flew 397kms. to Jackson, near Roma, flight time over
8 hrs.
Jon was flying a Moyes lightspeed with a glide angle of 14:1, with an
average tailwind of 10 knots.
I think this flight is a hill record for Beachmont and a Qld record as well.
Jon's father held the hill and Qld record at 340 kms. with a flight in far
better weather conditions, landing east of Moree, just a month ago
Under current weather conditions, todays flight rates as one of the very
best.
Do the sums with a 60:1 glider instead of 14:1??????

WHAT A FLIGHT
I was up until now, so proud of a flight like this in a wooden glider.

Current record on a 16-1 hangglider is 705 km
Sailplane pilots have a ways to go to "catch up" to HG pilots

705 km @ 16-1
3000 km @ 60-1

HG pilot has it hands down.
