If anyone remember The Right Stuff Pancho Barnes
ran the beer bar next to Edwards AFB where the test

My father, who lived in Lancaster CA took his first flying lessons from her in
41. My mother's father ran a general store in Lancaster and related that she
would come in about once a week to buy groceries etc.

Pancho Barnes ran the "Happy Bottom Riding Club" next to Edwards
A FB. She ran it until sometime after WWII. During the war, the
commander and pilots from Edwards kept her busy. After the war,
a more "straight laced" commander took over Edwards and didn't
approve of Pancho or her club, so he placed it OFF LIMITS to all
Edwards personnel. Not too long after that, the club burned to the
ground one night. A lot of irreplaceable aviation memorabilia was
lost in the fire and a few speculations grew out of the fire.

Panchio was the Granddaughter of Thaddeus S.C. Lowe, who
led the Army of the Potomac's balloon corps during the Civil War.
