Ron Schwartz has been pounding the Appalachian Ridge system since shortly after dawn this morning in his trusty 1-26. As of now (about 14:00 local) he's got about 600K under his belt and looks to be across the Potomac for the tricky Sleepy Creek Mountain transition. Assuming this works out, he has "only" about 200 miles of mostly downwind transitions to get back to the local ridge. Choose Blairstown Airport from the SSA Sailplane Tracker page:

p.s. Ron claims he's hard of hearing due to years of sitting right next to the big radial engines in the S2F he flew for the Navy. We know it's due to all of the oil-canning.

Go Ron......
Yep, 1-26 oil canning is a likely reason.....LOL......

Looked like good weather from the Finger Lakes district this morning.
Intermittent tracking, but now back on the Mahantango...

1000K 3TP flight (i.e. good for the diplome) with a 470 mile O&R. Well done!

Ron's a STUD!!! And so is his young protege, Daniel S., who - in another
American-designed-and-built sailplane - bagged World OLC #2 for the same day.
Surely world domination can't be far behind! :)

Mine too!
How many hours does Ron have in 1-26?

Probably enough to run out the life limits of one or two. I remember flying with him in the mid 70's and he was in a 1-26. I believe he did all badges (B through 3 diamonds and 1000K) in a 1-26.
Yes, he has flown "modern glass", but he likes the 1-26.

The amount of time Ron has in a 1-26 proves that he is farther along the evolutionary scale than many others. Just thinking about sitting in a 1-26 for 14 hours is enough for me to wish that my coccyx was a few more generations removed from the trees.

The line between the need for a prehensile tail and the need to sit in a 1-26 for 14 hours is fairly broad. Make your own conclusion on what side you are on.

Great flight, Ron!!!
