View Full Version : Watching Sarah Go!

June 1st 17, 02:35 PM
Sure wish I could have time to Watch Sarah Go! She's America's only pilot participating in the 9th FAI Women's World Gliding Championship taking place in Zbraslavice, Czech Republic. Today, she appears to be running quite well, AGAIN!

GO SARAH GO!

Today's tracking available at:

Looks like she landed out - 3.3 Km short of the finish..

I know squat about contest rules, but she did land out on a previous day with no penalty. Today her landout was within the final calendar. Does that mean she'll be shy of distance points, but with a good finish? On the last leg, she broke away early from the second pack and just screamed for home. Hope the risk payed off.

Ouch, turned short of the Brtnice turnpoint.

Scores have been revised and Sarah did indeed finish, albeit with a small finish penalty (too low). Still in 3rd overall, 237 pts out of 1st. Pretty darned nice going.

best,
Evan Ludeman / T8

"It ain't over 'till it's over!" I have seen all sorts of crazy stuff
happen
on the last day or two of glider contests, especially WGC's... She's in a
good position right now, especially if others screw something up....

Like I said, I have seen strange things happen in the last day or
two of a WGC. #1 landed out... Now Sarah is 70 points out
of first place, but that will be a very tough margin to make
up, given that there are 3 Germans in the top 10, and they
will most certainly use those numbers to fly as a team to keep
a German on the top of the score sheet for tomorrow night.
They may send one out as a rabbit. They may have one
devoted to sticking with Sarah. They have a lot of options,
where Sarah has no USA team mates of her own to help her out..
You never know until it's actually over though...
