Student ask what FAR's?

Hello all, I am a student glider pilot (3 Hrs)and wanted to know what
specific parts of the FAR's do I need to study? I have the FAR AIM
book.

Part 1 that has the definitions, many people do not understand the
difference between aircraft, airplane, category and class
Part 61 that deals with pilot certification
Part 91 that deals with flight operations
Part 830 that deals with accident reporting

Also, Jackie Payne at one time had a book, FARs for Glider pilots, check the
local glider sales places like Knauff and Grove or Wings and Wheels or SSA
and see if they still have it.

Actually, it's done by Doris Grove, so it is definitely available at
Knauff and Grove! It's updated and still available, since I looked a
copy at K & G's booth at the convention. Jackie Payne has book on badge
and records procedures, but I haven't looked at it recently.

I don't know about Jackie, but Doris Grove certainly does. See Knauff
and Grove or the SSA site.

Thanks all for the information, I'll be hitting the books.

P.S. By the way, are some of the authors from my old books still
around, namely Richard Wolters and Gren Seibels?

I'm not sure; neither show up in the SSA member locater.

BTW, Wolters was also an avid hunter and hunting dog trainer. He
wrote several training books which are classics: Water Dog, Gun Dog
and others.

No, I don't apply the techniques to my students, although I wonder if
a shock collar would be effective when they show up unprepared or
provide the wrong response(just joking).

Regrettably, both 'Old Dog' Wolters and Gren Seibels have soared beyond
mortal life.

The obituary I saw for Old Dog indicated he passed away at the controls of
his powered ultralight, which was found essentially undamaged with Old Dog's
mortal body at the controls. It surmised he had passed away, in flight, of
heart failure.
