The article is written by Charles Peterson (his second in the magazine I believe) and resides within in the latest August 2017 issue of AOPA Pilot. This issue not online yet (still July) within th website but the magazine is starting to ship. The article features Rich Owen and tells the tale of the FAI SGP USA 🇺🇸 Orlando and highlights general competition soaring thru his eyes as a lifelong pilot (military, commercial and soaring).

I'm working with the AOPA publications department to try and get the article released publically for social media consumption and sharing.

Congrats Charles (CP) and Rich on the article.

The article also features Maria Szemplinska's exceptional soaring photography...

Thanks again Charles, Maria and Rich.

Excellent article and distribution numbers. This is the second article I have seen in AOPA in the last two years about soaring.

Well written article. Good tone for the airplane audience. More type A orientated, instead of the usual soaring articles about happy hippy cloud hugging. Not that there is anything wrong with hippies hugging clouds.

Nice to have such exposure to the non-soaring public. Meanwhile, SSA has put the huge archive of Soaring magazine on line - but only allows access to SSA members. How stupid is that? If we want to attract new members, should allow interested people access, to learn about our sport.

Nice article -- this is the second very good piece in AOPA's magazine by Charles Pederson.

Thank you Charles...

Yup. "Air Force and airline pilots like to spend their weekends attaining superior skills and fun in gliders -- they're not interested in 172s".

Please consider joining AOPA in return for their kind support of our sport.
