OSHKOSH BOUND Posters On The Web

The Oshkosh Bound '04 posters are up for downloading and printing to your
heart's content. Also up are a simplified version of the Ripon-Fisk VFR
procedures for your dining and dancing pleasure.

Note that the easily remembered colored Fisk arrival procedures (Purple, Red,
Blue, Yellow) are now called Northwest, Southwest, Northeast, Southeast. Why
anybody takes a perfectly good system, easy to remember, and has to muck it up
is beyond me, but that's the way it is. And the hell of it is, the procedures
have absolutely no relationship to the directions indicated. They all originate
at Fisk, which, last time I looked, was southwest of Oshkosh.

It would appear that the "Northwest" flow means that you are using the
runways "to the north" and "to the west"," "southeast" means you are using
the runways "to the south" and "to the east", etc. Intuitively, for
newcomers anyway, this should be "easier to remember" than "Purple".. (Which
runways is THAT?)

Just wanted to remind everyone that will be using these posters a few things
that the people in the orange vests (in homebuilt parking)want you to know.

1. We do not have binoculars built into our eyes, we can only see the signs
from about 20 feet away.
2. We can not read them very well if you hold them out the window into
propwash as they will bend.
3 If you print them up on orange paper and use yellow ink to write on them,
we can't read them. Contrasting colors help.
4 Putting the sign in the window in a spot where there is glare will render
it invisible.
5. We are humans also, we make mistakes.
6. We know where the nearest bathroom is, and you may not, so be nice to
us.
7. We apologize in advance for the F.A.A.
8. Bribing us may not get you a better spot, but try it anyways.
9. Don't yell at us as we are volunteers, we will yell back.
10. There is a (new) area for homebuilt camping in back of what we call Area
51. At the end of the taxiway between us and Warbirds (Papa 1). If you want
you can camp there, just ask.
11. If you are departing, let us know, we can push you out when it is time
to go.
12. If you see a sign that says anything about running your engine in the
tie down area, shot it down at the line.
13. Do not leave anything under your aircraft unsecured. Not for reasons of
theft prevention, but in case of strong winds stuff goes everywhere.
14. The aircraft marshaller at the intersection of Papa 1 and the drainage
ditch is from Flight Line Ops. We have no control over what he says and we
apologize if you are sent back north because of him.
I am sure there are more things to tell you, but if you have questions, ask
me directly. I will answer it for you or pass it along to someone who can.

Just out of curiousity, why doesn't homebuilt parking "advertise" on the
EAA volunteers needed list on their website?

Cause the volunteers for homebuilt parking are all Aviation Explorers,
except for the EAA members that sponsor the Aviation Explorers. I'm one of
the Aviation Explorers advisors. <g>

By the way, Jim G., I'll see you soon. Sunday afternoon arrival. :-)
