I recently bought a nice PW-5 with original Sierra open trailer. Glider and trailer have been sheltered since new and are both in great shape. The glider is a joy to fly, but the trailer leaves a lot to be desired. I am interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with modifying the trailer to make it more functional, as well as anyone who has converted to an enclosed trailer.

Also, I need to install an oxygen system. Any tips? What size bottle?

Thanks

An enclosed cattle trailer would be appropriate.

Sorry couldn't help myself.

Paul Remede had a trailer converted for a Schweizer that the top top lifted straight up. He may still have photos. It is likely easier to buy a used trailer and fit it for the glider. There are many 70's and 80's trailers sitting empty. Look at W&W's or just wander around most larger glider sites.

I may be working on modifying a Sierra trailer as well... mine's a rear-opening trailer. First step is probably going to be mounting a 4-to-1 pulley inside for smoothly loading the fuselage single-handed. Second mod is probably going to be getting that spare tire mounted on the front rather than carrying it inside. (At least for retrieves, anyway.)
