View Full Version : Solenoid valve

My Pegasus tail ballast bag sprung a leak last year. In the process of replacing it, I decided to also change the 12v electric solenoid valve as it was pretty corroded after years of use. The old valve had a 5/16 (.3125") orifice which drained the one gallon bag reasonably quickly. Unfortunately, the only solenoid valves I have been able to find have a much smaller orifice, resulting in a much longer drain time. I think the old valve was a Honeywell unit, but the part number is corroded and unreadable. McMaster and other online searches have not been successful. Any suggestions for a source for a small 12v solenoid valve with a larger flow capacity?

And yes, I realize this was an aftermarket solution and is not supported by Centrair. I have a good A&P and can get the approvals required.

ASCO is pretty much the industry standard solenoid valve

Burkert is another source

I have restricted the tail tank flow to match the time it took to drain the wing tanks....that way, I could dump half a load and retain the desired CG........a slow selinoid valve may be more in line with what is needed.
Just a thought,
