Crewing down pat

Every pilot seems to want to do the simplest of things differently
from the next guy. Having a crew that is intimate with the pilot's
routine is a blessing for any contest pilot.

In other words, if you crew for a different pilot expect to have to do
things differently.

There may still be pilots that give responsibility for all preparation
to the crew and just jump in and fly but I've never been one of them.

has an entire chapter on crewing. Below is one of my favorite excerpts from
the chapter, which got a great reaction at a WSPA (Woman Soaring Pilot
Assoc) semininar a few years back. I'm a sucker for the classics...

From page 96:
Do not assume that females never make good crew members. Actually they are
not all bad and sometimes can be very excellent. You bachelor sailplane
pilots should concentrate you attention on the brainy and brawny broads. If
brainy and brawny, they are more easily trainable. You married fellows
whose wives do not fit these specs will have to suffer along. You girl
pilots will have to interpret these suggestions as you see fit.
