Here's the 'what's new' from the webpage:
What’s new in Condor 2
Graphics engine:
Rendering code completely rewritten to DirectX 11, allowing extensive use of GPU shaders (vs DirectX 7 of Condor 1 with fixed pipeline rendering)
Screen resolution limited only to hardware (vs max 2048 in Condor 1)
Fullscreen ALT-TAB functionality is now supported (vs. full screen switching not supported in Condor 1)
Weather model:
Many improvements to thermal model (higher cloud base, thicker clouds, streeting, flatlands activity)
Completely new Cu cloud model, much less strain on the GPU and more realistic lighting, will enable much bigger clouds (2.x version)
Improved ridge lift model
A new high level wind speed setting with wind speeds up to 100 km/h (vs.. no high level wind setting and wind speeds of max 50 km/h in Condor 1)
Completely rewritten wave lift with multiple waves and lenticularis clouds (vs. single wave and no lenticularis clouds in Condor 1)
Adjustable cirrus density (vs static in Condor 1)
Multiplayer:
64 planes or more in MP with better (smarter) plane position data exchange (vs max 32 planes in Condor 1)
Automatic port forwarding (vs manual NAT setup in Condor 1)
Flight physics model:
Improvements to flight physics model
Nicer plane handling
Scenery rendering:
30 m resolution scenery, internally 22.5m (vs 90 m in Condor 1)
Default scenery texture size is 2048 (vs 512 in Condor 1, that is 16x more texture data)
Much lower terrain texture memory footprint despite higher texture resolution
Much denser forests with real size trees and more accurate tree placement (vs less dense forests with 3x too big trees and 16x worse tree placement in Condor 1)
Multithreaded terrain loading which loads terrain tiles much faster (vs.. single threaded terrain loading in Condor 1 which would now take 8+ seconds if not multithreaded)
Water is “alive” with sun reflections and waves (vs static texture in Condor 1)
Sky and shading:
New sky model with more realistic sunrise/sunset effects
Exponential (realistic) haze (vs linear haze in Condor 1)
Cu clouds cast shadows depending on the sun position (vs shadow always vertically below cloud in Condor 1)
Lenticularis clouds cast shadows on ground and planes
New sun and flares model, sun is hidden behind objects, flares disappear (vs. sun and flares always ON even if behind an object in Condor 1)
Realtime scenery lighting and shadows, mountains cast shadows (vs. static texture shadows in Condor 1)
Trees, planes, airports and all ground objects lighted from sun and shadowed from mountains and clouds (vs. static color in Condor 1)
All ground objects cast shadows (vs no shadows in Condor 1)
Realtime self shadowing of planes in cockpit and outside (vs. no self shadowing in Condor 1)
Specular highlights on planes and other objects (vs no specular highlights in Condor 1)
Planes:
Much higher poly count of planes (exterior and cockpit)
3D instrument models (vs 2D textures in Condor 1)
Reflections of pilot on instruments (vs no reflections in Condor 1)
New, high poly and high resolution texture pilot model
Completely new wing bend model, wings now have inertia (vs. no inertia in Condor 1)
New animation for hand to see wris****ch which is animated
Rotating wheels on planes (vs static wheels in Condor 1)
Improved high/low G effects
Airports:
Completely redesigned airport rendering with high resolution asphalt and grass textures (vs. low resolution textures in Condor 1)
Scenery designer controlled placement of windsocks. Multiple windsocks per airport are allowed, with adjustable size (vs. 1 windsock with generic placement in Condor 1)
Much higher poly count and higher resolution airport objects
Other:
New, higher resolution GUI
High resolution flighttrack logging (vs. low resolution in Condor 1)
Right button mouse “zooming” allows camera placement almost everywhere (vs static distance camera in Condor 1)
Moved all user files (flighttracks, flightplans etc) to documents\Condor folder (vs “virtualstore” issues in Condor 1)
Revised registration and verification to eliminate installation counter problems
Many other improvements (variable tow rope length etc.) …

We do prefer Force feedback joysticks, and the only decent one is the old Microsoft force feedback 2. Discontinued over 10 years ago..
You can still find good examples on eBay.

I would like to take some credit for the recent release of Condor2.
After working on it for nearly two years (not steadily), I recently published a Condor Orientation document to my website, gliderCFI.com. The orientation, while not everything there is to know about Condor, is a compilation of everything I have learned about the software over the last 8 years as I have levered its features and capabilities to improved glider flight training.
As a disciple of Murphy, I firmly believed the instant I completed my work, based on Condor version 1.1.5, the Condor guys would announce the new release, likely rendering my work obsolete. And so it came to pass, at least the release timing.
To all of you who have waiting so patiently for this day, you are welcome.
====
This is however some evidence here that Murphy may be getting a little soft.. After a quick read through the Condor2 manual, it would appear that much of what I have documented about the software may still be true, so my labor may not have been entirely in vain.
If you are interested, my orientation document is available (as are all my Version 1.1.5 training resources) at no charge, from my website. Follow the drop-down menu under "Condor" or use the link below.
http://glidercfi.com/condor/orientation/orientation-document/

Congratulations to the entire Condor2 team, and thank you for all you have done to produce a truly amazing simulation of soaring flight.

Can you use the existing landscapes (Condir 1) with Condor 2?

What it needs is to be able to use Bing or Google earth images without having to flaff about with the landscape rubbish.

Scenery authors need to convert their landscapes for Condor 2. Some of them were part of beta team so have had the tools from us for some time. Others have just started. See http://www.condorsoaring.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=37

Google Maps terms of use state that redistribution of their content is forbidden and even the rules of using their maps in TV or press are quite strict. Not to mention, they clearly state that bulk downloading their data is forbidden too.

Chris, I'll ask again:
Is their any plan to make Condor 2 capable of supporting Virtual Reality (Vive or Rift)?
VR is a TOTAL game changer in flight simulation - it changes something like Condor from basically a procedural trainer (albeit an excellent one) to pretty close to a full-up flight simulator.
And compared to the cost of a big screen setup (especially a multi-screen setup) a good VR headset is cheap.
Head-tracking systems like Track-IR - or worse, using a hat switch or mouse to move your viewing direction - are handicaps for initial training - solved by the natural viewing habits learned in VR.
Please - consider adding VR capability as soon as possible!

There was quite a bit of 'discussion' about that on the forums and I think the official answer was no there are no plans for VR, but they are open to considering it in the future.

That's a pity - definitely removes any interest I have in upgrading to Condor 2. Hopefully they will come around soon and see the benefits of going VR.

Hi,
It looks like I jumped the gun a little with my announcement below. Somehow I came to the conclusion that Condor2 was available for customers. It isn't quite available yet. I have received a license key for myself and installed Condor2 and it is working well. Uros at Condor says license keys for customers should be available very soon. I have received a number of pre-orders and will get keys to customers as soon as I receive them.
Quick Pre-Review
I like the new gliders in the new version (DuoDiscus, Gunau Baby, etc). I very much like that the user-interface is nearly identical to the previous version of Condor. There is no need to learn new screens or layouts. The settings are in the same locations - for the most part. The user-interface does look newer/better. I love the new details in the glider interiors and the more detailed scenery. I like that I can still bump up 1000 m with the "miracle" keyboard key and see thermals with the thermal helpers button - which is also the same key on the keyboard.
You can see many details and get the manual from the Condor web site, or my web site (link in post below).

Chris, that's great to hear - and I appreciate what you are doing - so will be looking for Condor 2 VR enhancement "in two weeks" ;^)
Anyway, I'll be getting C2 for my daughter who is just starting to learn to fly gliders - only the best!

I apologize if this was already asked and answered on this forum but is C2 going to allow for tandem flying? I requested this a few years ago and I personally know of at least a half dozen other folks who have formally requested the same.
This would be a HUGE help in training.

I'm sure the Condor2 Team is swamped with emails right now, and it is the middle of the night in Slovenia. So, unfortunately, we'll need to be patient.

I used the online ordering and was up and running in about 20 minutes, from order to download to settings. It even works on my low performance video card.

I think people are only having issues ordering through Cumulus, buying directly seems to be running smoothly http://www.condorsoaring.com/order/

Could anyone share some screenshots or video of the new version of the sim? I'd like to see how it compares.

Mine activated with no problem. Briefly flew the Standard Cirrus and Genesis. I had just flown a hard task in version 1 when it came out, too bagged to do much more... This morning, I'll try ridge and wave.
First impression - visually great. Longer tow rope makes tows easier. Gliders look wonderful. Wish the numbers on the ASI were bigger (I use 1920x1080 on a 32" monitor).

I ordered Condor directly and didn’t have any issues. Condor itself is a big leap forward. I flew default task in Std Cirrus using thermals and some ridge. Landscape looks great. Tow rope on airtow can break now too! Glider looks very nice, reflections on the canopy, 3D screws and instruments :). Nice clouds, lights and haze. Lots of changes that make immersion full. Enjoyed my flight and slept like a baby. Now can’t wait to come from work and continue on converting Blairstown NJ to Condor2 :)

Does anyone have the flap settings vs speed for an Antares 18 - ideally in kts or a picture of the POH ASI flap ring? Either empty or fully ballasted?
Same question for Diana2.

OK, yes, I could go on the website (Condor or yours).....if you had the original version paid for, is there a price break to upgrade?

Condor is not currently offering a discount on Condor2 for Condor (1) users. The two products are quite different. The new version has different gliders and much better graphics. It also requires a more powerful computer and graphics card.

I flew with Condor2 for an hour last night and was favorably impressed. Aside from the graphics improvements, the glider's handling and response (Dana 2) seemed more realistic. Thermals seemed a bit wider in diameter with the core lift falling off at a more gradual rate, making it much easier to center lift. I always felt the thermals were unrealistically tight in the original Condor. Towing is MUCH better with a longer rope. I set up a wave situation and was able to find and stay in lift. I couldn't get any lennys to show up though. Flying in ridge lift seemed about the same. The lack of airplanes is a concern, especially since it looks like they will be selling individual planes for 8-12 euro each. that might hurt organized competitions like nightly soaring that count on everyone having the same class or model of ship for many races. Looking forward to participating in the first real race...

The way the gliders fly is very realistic, even better than the original,
but what a peculiar set of gliders, certainly some are not representative
of modern use. The original was far more representative. No glass training
glider, a Duo is not a basic trainer, not even a K13, and I thought Genesis
was grounded years ago, maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps a marketing ploy, so we
buy new ones.
To render all the work that has been done by keen flyers all over the world
in producing scenery invalid is a bit unkind, I only hope that it is easy
to make the old compatible with the new.
Overall, some good improvements, but can't help being a bit disappointed.

Converting v1 landscapes to v2 is not an easy... it needs to be rebult from scratch for the most part.
I was able to salvage old textures, which is good because it was one of the difficult tasks in V1, but in V2 all the tasks are difficult due to increased details plus some optional tasks like adding water etc. Overall, after spending a week, very tedious process, but it’s promising - our local ridge at Blairstown NJ looks really great even partially done.

Condor 2 is now Condor 2.01!
With this new patch comes some bugfixes and a graphics setting that will make it look much sharper now by default (anisotropic filtering) and the wonderful news that VR support is in the works.
