Dear soaring community,

If you or anyone you know is a glider pilot/aspiring glider pilot under the age of 30 in or around California please read this post all the way through.

Over the past couple of years, a few small groups have been working on promoting junior soaring in California, with the hope of creating a new face to gliding.
With some research, it occurred to us that we already have a significant number of young glider pilots, but no way for them to get in contact with each other.

This morning, we set up a slack system so that everyone under the age of 30 with a passion for gliding can get in contact with each other — a California Junior Soaring community.

So, if you or anyone you know is a young glider pilot, please sign up to our slack system.
The following link will take you to our sign-up: https://join.slack.com/t/ca-soaring/shared_invite/enQtMzQ5MTI0OTM1NDU3LTEwMmZlMDY3OTk5NjE2MmI1ZjU3MW NjNmU1MWRhODExMjNkNzRiNDYyYTIzYzFhYzUzMTI4Y2M0NWQ3 ZjFjMzg

Possible mentors:
I also set up a #mentors channel, so that curious young pilots can ask questions and have them answered by someone with experience.
Anyone can sign up as a mentor, as long as that person has experience and is willing to share knowledge with young pilots.
The #mentors channel will also be used to contact mentors when looking for people to give presentations/talks at our Junior Events.
The above link will also work for mentors looking to sign up.

Intro to slack:
Those of you who have used slack before will already know this, but you can subscribe to different channels within the slack system.
For example, as a cross country pilot who flies mostly in Northern California, I am subscribed to #cross-country, #licensed, #hollister, #williams.
This way, people who fly at these locations can get in touch with each other, this will also make it easier to set up events.
You can also send direct (private) messages through slack, to contact someone directly.
You will not be notified of every message sent to the system unless someone uses @channel in their message or someone sends you a direct message.
I would appreciate it if everyone who signed up to slack subscribed to #events, as well as #general.

For those of you who sign up:
Please create a profile, and add a photo of yourself. This will make it easier for people to recognize each other when we meet at events.
I am also asking that everyone subscribe to the #introductions channel, and give a brief intro on yourself.
This way I can keep track of what kind of pilots we mostly have, and for people to get to know each other a little bit.

Please feel free to email me with questions!
