At least it shows that they are listening!

While we are on the subject, did anyone notice how quick the results
from the European Championships were being posted? It was almost in
real time.. as soon as a new trace was brought in, the results were
updated and a .zip file of all the traces were available at the end of
each day.
Is this a function of using SeeYou to score the contests or is it just
that those Baltic Nations know how to use the Internet?
Couldn't this be done at the U.S contests or is this wishful thinking?

The World Class and Standards scores were posted each evening of the contest
day. I think posting the traces is a personal thing not a contest organizer
thing; some people don't want their trace made public, why I don't know, but
that is what I have heard.

Winscore, the program used to score most US contests has the ability to
quickly and easily export a .zip file containing all the flight logs for the
day. This .zip file has the logs in .igc format and also contains an .xml
file with all the task and contest information. Contestants who don't want
their log included in this export can easily be excluded.

The main issue with US contests is infrastructure. Many contests are held at
remote airports which have only a single phone line. This same phone line is
often in use as the retrieve line as well. It is not feasible to
continuously upload logs on a dialup connection.

The second issue the lack of a sense of urgency to report the contest news.
The time and effort to email a preliminary scoresheet is minimal, yet often
days go by without any news from a site. Even no contest/rain days should be
reported, but often are not.

Maybe when each contest has its own webserver in the scoring office with
personnel who are trained and motivated, such things might be possible, in
the meantime, I think it is wishful thinking.

Speaking as a club pilot who has tried to get our club site updated for
a year (the records and award winners from 2003 have not been added), I
have to agree. Well-meaning people doing good things for the club don't
always get around to doing everything that should be done.

The SSA supposedly has nothing to do with posting of the scores. The scores
are posted by the folks at the contest site direct to the web.

This is incorrect. Scorers posting the scores directly to the website (as I
did at Hobbs) are the exception and not the approved procedure. I quote
