View Full Version : Grob 102 maintenance and parts manual

Recently I Purchased an Astir CS. I was surprise to see that someone installed the spoiler connection bolts the way that if I open the spoiler fully it will jam all the way open.
Could anyone share maintenance manual that we can install the new bolts correctly? I have to find out what kind of bolts I need for sure.
Such a popular glider, someone must have a parts and maintenance manual. Where can I get one?
Thanks guys!

LTB Lindner in Germany bought all the rights, patents, molds, spare
parts, etc to the Grob glider line, and they provide essentially
"factory support".

They have a lot of spare parts in stock, and we have found them to
be quite responsive to our service needs.

If you need new spoilers themselves, let me know. Have a set of
them laying around.

I could not find a complite maintenance manual at the Linder site. Is this hard to come by? Does anyoneone of you have one? How can I get it? my AI needs to have it. Thanks

To the best of my knowledge Lindner charges for copies of the manuals - a while back there was an SB and AD issued under the EASA requiring the manuals to be of a certain revision. Being in Canada where AD's issued by the original type certification authority are automatically applied we bought new manuals each of which came with the serial number of the particular glider printed on the pages. Lindner has been very helpful with parts and support for out Grobs (and the privately owned Phoebus in the club) so they should be able to get you a full manual pretty quickly.
I may have a chance this week to check out the manual for our 102 Standard 3 and if the manual has a picture of the parts in question I can email a picture in the hopes that it is of some help even though quite a few design changes happened to the 102 over the years.

Sorry to hear that you purchased an Astir CS that has repairs done incorrectly. Those connections were probably done when the locking levers that were cast aluminum were replaced with aluminum sheet. 306-26/2. (AD 85-19-06) I do not have the entire repair manual but I have all the TM repair bulletins instructions in German and English.
I wish you had purchased my Astir CS which I have up for sale on WW. All 9 AD's and all TM's performed in Germany on my glider. AD 85-19-06 was done in '85 prior to US AD being issued.
There are 40 TM's issued by Grob for the 102 variants. These include extension of service life. The 3000 hr inspection is no big deal other than following the 3000hr inspection 306-30/2. With a maximum of 12000 flight hours.. Of the 40 TM's only 9 are US AD's. I had a time confirming my AD's where completed because they were completed years prior to US AD's being issued. Its been awhile since I've read all the information for my glider but I will be happy to answer any specific questions. I can not imagine anyone having a more complete set of service info on the Astir CS.
BTW, Grob requested and received Manufactures Airworthy Cert from US in 1976. My ASTIR is 1975 model with 2400hrs and I will put her handling and maintenance with any other.
History in case you did not know: Grob was contracted to build the Standard Cirrus. The ASTIR CS was the first glider Grob produced of their own design and after they stop producing the Standard Cirrus. 535 ASTRI CS's were produced. Later designs were not as popular. The are: ASTIR CS (535), ASTIR CS 77 (243), ASTIR CS JEANS (247), STANDARD ASTIR II (60), CLUB ASTIR II (60), STANDARD ASTIR III (151), CLUB ASTIR III (151), CLUB ASTIR IIIB (151).
Enjoy your Astir CS. It is easy to fly and fun. I can rig mine solo in 20 min.

Sorry for the late follow up but I got overwhelmed with other stuff - I looked at our 102 Standard III maintenance manual and repair manual and the airbrake system diagram doesn't look detailed enough to be of help - it just shows the major parts in a wing cutaway. If you haven't worked things out already Lindner is probably your best bet unless someone with a good CS (or maybe a CS-77) can take some pictures for you. I can take a picture of our Standard III tomorrow but it could well be different in the details to the CS.
Dear colegue,
I have an Astir CS jeans but do not have any technical documentation but flight manual. If You have parts catalogue or any document where is visible aragement of part I would like to have. I know that Yours Astir is different than mine but fuselage is almost same. Picture with mobile phone and Whatsapp or viber will be very kind. My mobile is +385 98 584 714. I wrote couple of email's to LTB Lindner but they did not respond at all. That id not tipical German behaviour. From mine personal experience Schempp Hirth and Alexander Schleicher are much more serious snd quite responsive. Regrds Joško

Josko,
I asked Linder the same thing about the manual and would not sell it to me. What I found out, that they have a blue print (original drawing) that they would sell one small part at the time. I ordered bolts and locking nuts from them. The nuts were not matching the bolts. They made me send them back and I did. Linder never sent me the replacement parts. As the manual I have a very tiny part of the original drawing for those small bolts. I can only way check out on a correct assembly that I travel 2-3 hours to see an other Grob 102 and take lots of pictures. Good luck.

If you are thinking that a parts manual and a service manual would resemble the documentation like a series 100 Cessna, I don't believe they are that comprehensive. a blueprint copy may be all that exists.
Am I wrong?

Every aircraft by the FAA rules must have parts and service manual. Back than in 1977, the rules were different. One day in an old German Hangar, someone will find a Grob manual and will share with the world.

I contacted LTB Lindner last December for some drawings to identify the parts we needed for our 102. Got them as a .pdf including the BoM. Once I knew what we needed, I emailed them again to place the order. I had the parts including the Form 1 in hand two weeks later. They were very responsive and reasonably priced - no complaints here!

I have had the same experience as well. They were very responsive and easy to work with.
Uhhhh that's not good news. But I suspected that situation is like that. I send 2 emails to Lindner and they did not respond.
Same is with Grob aerospace .... I'ts a shame for German aviation. Compleately different situation is with
Schempp Hirth and Alexander Schleicher, they are quick and quite expeditive.
Dear Uli how I can get drawings in pdf which You have?
Long time ago somewhere around 2009 my friend and I made 3000 hours inspection on my club member Astir cs 77
We removed everything and made photo documentation to be sure during assembly. In the meantime I changed two or tree PC and lost data.
But now I,m owner of an Astir Jeans.
My email is and .

Hello Josko,
I gave Lindner the serial number of our Astir and described the area I needed information on - in my case, the assembly of the trim lever friction washers and springs. LTB Lindner sent me copies of that section of the drawing including the Bill of Materials for all detailed parts. I did not get any drawings beyond that. Our Astir is an early model; not a Astir Jeans.

Does "Jeans" mean blue denim in this context, or is it a European word?Â*
Just curious...

From the Grob 102 Astir wiki: "...The Astir CS Jeans was similar to the CS 77, but had a fixed mainwheel and a tailskid. Its cockpit was fitted in blue denim"...
Dear all, usualy Astir Jeans have cockpit in blue jeans like "Levis jeans" on ours cockpit uphosterly was changed.
I also need drawings of trim mechanism because it is to movable during main pilot stick inputs. I still waiting till
Croatian authorities give us official confirmation of ours Maintenance program.
So it would great help if anyone send me any drawings, because I do not have any drawing.
Ours Astir is serial No. 2070 ex Belgian air cadets.

You are assuming correctly, Dan. It was a 'thing' at the time and coincided with VW offering their Beetle 'Jeans' model at the same time:

You can download a complete Flight Manual, Maintenance Manual, and Repair Instruction from https://www.manualslib.com/download/1586640/Grob-Astir-Cs-G102.html
You need to be careful of the serialization on your bird - there is a break in configuration at S/N 1437. This downloadable document applies post-1437. The other pages are relatively easy to come by though.
Thanks I downloaded manual from website. It would be even bether if someone have maintenance manual for Astir Jeans ... regards Josko
