View Full Version : Loading SUA File In ClearNav

August 8th 18, 04:03 PM
I hope someone can help.ツ* I'm in Montrose, CO on a gliding safari and
there are several fire TFRs in the area.ツ* I have created a TFR file but
can't figure out how to load it into my ClearNav II flight computer.ツ*
I've also looked through the ClearNav website and can't find the
information there.

I have created a directory structure on a USB stick which matches the
structure used by the CN Simulator.ツ* The SUA file works on the simulator
but not in the aircraft.ツ* I installed the stick before turning on the
CNII but when stepping through the menus to load an SUA file, I don't
find the file listed.ツ* What am I missing?

Dan:
The airspace file (I prefer TXT to SUA) goes on the USB stick in the Map Data / SUAs folder.
Put the USB stick in and power up. At the prompt, update airspace. It prompts to remove USB and restart. Then go to the menu icon on the ribbon, tab with "no glider" icon, load.

Jim,

I'm pretty sure I've done everything exactly as you described except for
using the .txt suffix instead of .sua.ツ* I'll give that a try.

Thanks,
Dan

Well, I tried using a .txt suffix and the file was not found by the
simulator.ツ* I changed the suffix back to .sua and was able to load and
view the TFRs on the simulator.

I'll try again at the glider today, but yesterday I did not get any
prompt to update files when I powered up with the stick already plugged in.

Are you out there, Evan?

..TXT and .SUA are different formats and you can't convert between them by
just changing the suffix!

Hi Dan,

Can you send me the file you are trying to load or link me to where the file came from?

.TXT and .SUA are different file formats. You can't translate them by just
changing the file .prefix!

Yup, I knew that.ツ* I created the file in a text editor and it added the
..txt suffix by default.ツ* I changed that.

I think the problem is with the stick format and the lack of the
ClearNav updater executable.ツ* I'm headed out to the glider now to try it
out.

Dan sent me his .sua file and it's a valid .sua, works in my ClearNav PC sim. I suspect the issue has to do with his usb. reply sent...

It's rarely required, but if you ever lose your CN usb or need to rebuild it for some reason, the usb contents including the updater are archived on the CN downloads page. Note that the usb updaters for CN1 and CN2 are different (and so labelled).

Got it fixed!ツ* The problem was that I removed the updater file from the
stick a long time ago and this was the first time I tried to make a
change and I simply forgot how.ツ* I'm a systems engineer, not a software
engineer, but I wonder why the programmers would not have made it so
that simply having the file on the stick and selecting the menu item to
load a particular file would work in real time rather than at boot up.

Or is that it's a real time program and not capable of such things as
making changes on the fly?ツ* Anyway, I got it working but there was so
much smoke in the air around Montrose, CO that I didn't fly today but
instead made a road trip.

Thanks to all who pitched in.

Dan
