Just took delivery of a LAK 17B FES and would like to share advice, tips,
etc with other owners. Is there anyone out there?

Congratulations David!

There is still an active LAK17A Yahoo group that also includes 17B owners. You might want to sign up.

You may want to consider joining the recently-created FES Owners Group

Hello, I am considering purchasing a LAK 17B FES self launcher. I sold my DG 800 A a while back, looking into the FES technology.
Looking for more info from current owners.
Performance, room in the cockpit (I am almost 6'4" yall) etc.
Also, I am in Colorado, could somebody in this region contact me so I can come dee the glider?
Thank you.

Did you intentionally post your message four times?

The LAK-17bFES is NOT a self launcher, though it has been done once that
I know of.Â* The clearance between the prop and the ground is very small.

Of course he didn't - but it happens easily. The MINI-LAK is the self -
launching version - www.lak.lt the LAK 17BFES is a self sustainer - but has

launched itself - but not licensed for this I think

According to DMSt Index list, the Mini-LAK is 103, and the LAK-17B FES is 117, and the DG-800A is 118 (see https://www.daec.de/fileadmin/user_upload/files/2018/Sportarten/Segelflug/DMSt-WO_2018ki.pdf ) . Mini is self-launch but significantly less performance.

The mini-LAK is a FAI 13.5m class glider - so very different from the 15/18m LAK 17.

Good morning David and all,

I am also considering the purchase of an FES equipped glider, sometime between now and 'retirement'. I am experiencing much difficulty in locating and joining this group, and wondering what I am doing wrong. Can anyone help me?

Hi David

Wondering if you had had a chance to fly it yet?

Keen to know about the handling (with water) at close to Max AUW and also climb rate of the FES (dry). The polar looks close to the ASG-29, but how do you think that pans out in the real world?

Regards

Richard (Sydney Australia)

I flew a LAK-17a (not an FES) for about 650 hours and found it to be
delightful to fly both dry and with as much as 50 gallons of water on
board.Â* You would hardly notice the difference in handling qualities.
