Some years ago interesting images about the new "gull winged" glider Albatros started circling the
web. It was one of the most interestign designs over long time and imho still is. Anyone knows the
fate of the program?

This project is one that Hanko Streifeneder started about 6 years ago. For
various reasons it is still not finished. the fuselage is done, complete with
electric driven retracting main wheel.

Hanko has a lot of projects going on and the Albatross is just one.

There are pictures on his web site in the "technical info" section.

Hanko and his very talented son Christian are among the top inovaters in the
world of composite aircraft technology.

Very nice. I always wondered what a Libelle would look like with gull wings.

Having spent a few days with the Streifeneders earlier this summer
getting ready for the Club Class WGC, I just wanted to echo Roberts
comments and add a few of my own. The Streifenders are truly talented
innovators and welcome visitors from far and wide to their shop. If
anyone is ever in Grabenstetten, they should stop by the shop. While
not a very large shop or a glider manufacturer, they seem to have
their hand in everything from work with all the big named glider
manufacturers to work for airbus to non-aviation commercial projects
to "just for fun" projects. It is these "just for fun" projects and
other commercial jobs that get in the way of the innovative products
like the Albatros.

As regards the Albatros, the design is quite close to first flight.
But "close" to the Streifeneders means all in good time. Hanko's goal,
as he told me, was to take a slow approach so as to have a fully
engineered, fully flyable glider come out at the end. Whether or not
the Streifenders put it into production or they sell the design to
another manufacturer is still up in the air (or on the ground, as the
case may be). But whether it flies soemtime in 2005 or in two-three
years, we can all be sure to be wowed by it and other "ideas" of the
Streifenders!
