FAA ISSUES AD FOR BECKER TRANSCEIVERS
The FAA has issued an airworthiness directive for about 1,000 Becker
Flugfunkwerk 4201 VHF AM transceivers. The AD requires adding a
limitation to the aircraft flight manual and a cockpit placard due
to intermittent malfunctioning of the transceiver, or removing it from
service. Compliance time is five days after the effective date of the
November 19 AD. For more visit the Web site
( http://www.aopa.org/epilot/redir.cfm?adid=5703 ).

Since the addition to the POH and cockpit plackard are limitation to
VFR flight only, US gliders should not have to comply due to their VFR
nature already. Does anyone have any experience in exempting gliders
from this type of AD?

Since I do have a Becker 4201 (S/N: 9499) in my LS, I did review the
FAA directive and found that non-compliance will suspend my IFR
privileges.
I can live, that is soar with that...

New models of the Becker 4201 are not affected. I just purchased mine and
the serial number is above those listed.

It will be nice to get it installed before it becomes obsolete.
