I keep moving and changing ISP's so I finally broke down and paid for
web hosting and a domain. You can find the Captain Zoom web page (and
a lot of other stuff like photos of the rec.aviation Fly-in at
Pinckneyville) at http://www.ousterhout.net/

John,
I keep getting 404'ed when I go to the fly in photos link. It looks
like all of the thumbnails point Netscape to http://fly-in/xxx.html which
resolve to http://www.fly-in.com, a Florida real estate company. They
ain't got your pictures! Looking at the html source everything looks OK
and when I directly type in http://www.ousterhout.net/fly-in/jean-02.html
it works. Somthin ain't right, perhaps its just me.

of the pages. For example the whole Tony page ,when I click the icon all I get is
the dreasded "you cannot access this site" alert.Others will open. Is there
something wrong at my end? No wise cracks please :-)

Chuck, do you REALLY think anyone would make comments? Gee, would anyone in the
NG do such a thing? I am shocked, SHOCKED that you would suggest such a thing.

I am offended that you would imply we would mock you.

With that out of the way, have you tried removing parental controls?

There is something definitely wrong with the tony page. All I get are
broken image links. Looking at the source there are no </TD> and </TR>
tags. Internet explorer will deal with that to some extent. Early versions
of Netscape (I quit using it at 4.7x) won't.

The links are all generating URL like the one below.
http://<a href="tony/tony-01.jpg

Probably a problem with the head section. I would guess there should be a
</A> associated with this line

I haven't used </TD> and </TR> end tags in five years. They are not
used anywhere in my pages. Only stone age browsers, i.e. Netscape 3x,
have any problem with that. When publishing, I checked my page with
IE6, Mozilla FIrefox, and a Mac and they all displayed all pages OK.

Chuck, what browser are you using? Do you have the same problem on
the Pinckneyville photo pages?

I'm visiting in Oregon and using a PC at the Public Library right now.
After staring intently at the html on the Tony page for a while I
suddenly said "Duh-oh!" and whumped myself up the side of the head.
I'm staying with a friend tonight and I'll put an ftp program on his
PC and fix the problem. It's not the end tags, but another html
error... a careless one I made when editing the pages as I transferred
them from the old host. It's odd that it showed up in only some
browsers. Here I see the problem in IE 6.0.2800.1106 but I did not
see it on my PC when I tested it last week.

That is why 'HTML validators' exist. Write to the _standards_, and it'll
appear properly in any browser. shortcuts _may_ work, "most of the time"

There are any number of validators available on-line, for free. They're
well worth the little effort it takes to use them.

I found and fixed that error too.

I've learned that it's not a good idea to make lots of revisions and
then go away for a week.

Or make revisions at 2:00am the look at it a few days later... Like I've
done on my site a couple times, not a good idea. ;o)

I know in Opera browser if you right click on the web page/frame then if
it's a frame click on frame then click on validate source and it will
automatically validate it for you. It basically goes to
http://validate.w3c.org
you might try it.
