I need winch launch videos

[Bill Daniels]

I'm starting to put together my presentation on winch launch for the SSA
convention in February and I need short video clips. Anything to do with
winch launch will do but those that tell a story about winch launch
operations will be especially appreciated.

I remember a little comedy skit video that was on the web about a year ago.
Two novices get into a glider and launch, each thinking the other is the
instructor. Must still be out there somewhere.

Surely not exactly what you are looking for, but every talk can use a
laugh, and it does make a small point about safety.

yes, I remember that one - I think it was the advert for a Dutch
insurance company - maybe Google could help? Or maybe a Dutch glider
pilot who remembers where it could be downloaded from?

That was a funny video but it addresses insurance and not winch launch
directly. It doesn't actually show much about winch launch.

Re. winch launching (or failure) video: What about the one with the
DG-505 or similar that goes into a spin after turning from a failed
winch launch? (might not be exactly what is needed either, but you never
know, it certainly is educational)

Spinning in has nothing to do with how the glider was launched. It has a
lot to do with poor airmanship - which is the subject of other
presentations.

I like the youth and energy of the video. It says a lot about how to get
young people involved. I think winch launch is the big secret.

This is a winch launch of a Janus CE at Hoogeveen, the Netherlands. The
altimeter is metric, the achieved altitude is almost 500m. The vid is
shot with a digital photocamera and late in the evening, so the quality
is not superb, but perhaps you can use it, it features a nice sunset
anyway :-) Made by Peter Millenaar.

There was a commercial operation on the east coast (Georgia or the
Carolina's) that taught winch launching. They produced and sold an
instructional video on the subject. It sticks in my mind that the owner's
name was Derek Johnson, but I'm not sure of this. I bought a copy from him
and will look for it this evening.

The Derek Johnson video turns out to be about autotow, not winching.
It's an instructional video and part of a series he was selling in the
early 90's. Never-the-less, if you think it would be useful, let me
