Actually balloon launch is one of the oldest methods for launching
gliders. Probably comes right after foot launching.

So is this part of the new FAA Sport Pilot regs?

Hehe...I suppose this is "aerotow."
But what I really want is the first sport pilot-glider-astronaut.
The White Knight glider had something like a 135knot IAS?
Well, make it a little slower (120knots) and we have a deal, right?
;)

I've corresponded with the clusterballoon guy. It seems
good soaring weather (violent thermals, strong ridge, or
wave) and balloons don't mix so well...
