That is the first F-5G I have seen with guns.
I believe that "Ruff stuff" is a P-38L.

My mistake, it is actually a P38G-15-LO.

On the other hand, "Honey Bunny" is a P-38L-5-LO.

Nice pic...you take it?...if so how do you like that Nikon D300S? Been
wondering if I should upgrade from my Nikon Cool Pix.

Yup! That was at The California Capital Airshow in 2010 when they had
the six airworthy P-38s flying at the show.

> ...if so how do you like that Nikon D300S?

The D300S was one of my favorite cameras, its natural successor is the
excellent D500. However, my shooting these days is with a Fujifilm
X-T2, and a Fujifilm X-E3. I still have the D300S, but I haven't used
it in about a year.

> Been wondering if I should upgrade from my Nikon Cool Pix.

That is your choice, and should depend on what you want to do with your
photography. If you are thinking Nikon, and want to keep the cost down
then I would look at the D7100, or D7200 about $1000. If you care to
invest a bit more the D500, body only will run you about $1900. Lenses
will be extra.

I want to Amazon and did a search for the D300S and the lowest cost was $1600!!
A little too steep for a retired guy like me...but you take good pics.

My Nikon A900 is only a year old and my fourth Nikon Cool Pix.

That was what the D300S cost back in 2008, and I doubt that, other than
old new stock, you would find a new one today. That is an exploitive,
opportunistic price for a 10 year old camera. In the digital
photography world the D300S, while still capable, was old 6 years ago.
A used D300S in good condition, depending on vendor should run
$300-$350. $1600 is what a used D500 in good condition should cost.

> A little too steep for a retired guy like me...but you take good pics.

I retired back in 2009, and photography is one way I keep myself
occupied. I have spent about $9,000 on cameras, lenses, and other
photographic stuff, including software, since I retired.

> My Nikon A900 is only a year old and my fourth Nikon Cool Pix.

There is nothing wrong with using that, provided you are happy with the
results, from the camera, and your own skills.

Personally

I would use B&H Video, KEH, or Roberts Camera before I would consider
eBay for used cameras, or lenses. However, whatever floats your boat.

Didn't think of it but should have...my sister was a 'seller' for years...buying
nik naks at garage sales and selling them on Ebay. She didn't need the money
but did it to keep busy.

rr-27231 was a P-38L convverted to a F-5G, It left AAF service as a
F-5G and was restored in Civil hands as a P-38L. Therefor I was
correct. It was a F-5G and always therefor will be a F-5G no matter
what a restoration converts it to.

So the U.S. ARMY P-38G-15-LO and AF SER# 43-2212 that is currently
painted on it is fake?

Yes, many restorations fly with false ID's.
