Nope, not in a 1-36.
Since a 1-34 would provide all of these with similar low speed
performance to the Grob, similar cost, and still be a Schweizer, he must
just want to go slower.

Maybe not so hard to understand if you knew something about him and his
wife - Joann and Charles Shaw have been active 1-26 pilots for decades,

Didn't Jo and Chas own and operate a nimbus 3 for some years? They must
have had sopme reasons for going back top 1-26 and PW-5?

who realizes that the AD on the Grob is not worth fixing if he really wants
a 1-26 that has no AD problems..

They never left the 1-26.

Jo just flew the nimbus 3 for a while and got her 1000K in it.

1000K is still a little bit far for a 1-26, since the longest straight line
is around 440 miles.
