Good read plus lots of pictures!

(CNN) — This is the era of the glass and steel airport.
As if made from the same mold, shiny, glittering terminals have become a status
symbol for any city with aspirations.
But all of this is a world away from the remoteness of Russia's Arctic regions
and the Siberian wilderness.
Here you'll discover an entirely different type of airport, built in the
mid-20th century when the Soviet Union saw in air transport a way to expand the
state's reach to every corner of its territory, even if that meant little more
than a dirt runway and a radio shack.
You won't find huge duty-free shops, fast food joints or big-name fashion
brands, but Russia's wooden airports have a beauty of their own.
Some are a little dilapidated, but even then their frailness and simplicity give
them a unique and charming character.
Here's a travel guide to some of Russia's most remarkable wooden airports. But a
warning to would-be visitors: Although many of them see regular airline service,
getting there can be quite an adventure.

Still, they're WAY ahead of Africoonia:

"The recent rating of Port Harcourt International Airport as the worst in
the world by sleepingInAirports.net may have prompted the announcement by
the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) last week, that the
re-modeling works at the facility and others in the country would be
completed in 2016.
"The authority assured the public that the situation was under control, as
FAAN was doing everything possible to proffer solution to the challenges
faced by all airport users, within the shortest time possible.
"FAAN also stated that it would continue to upgrade facilities at the nation’s
airports to ensure security, safety and comfort of all airport users."

Oh this is hilarious. Have the dimoRATs
blamed Trump for this ******** yet?
Today I read where the ****ing 'tards at
CNN and WaPo are already blaming Trump
for the hurricane. WaPo says it was because
The Don ****-canned the Paris bull****. Not
to be outdone, CNN says it is because of
his economic policies. Makes one wonder
just how ****ing stupid the dims are.
I see where else this is going... GOOD!
The 'tards in there are all that's left
anyway. **** 'em.

Some of these remind me of the 'airport' I took my first flying lessons in the
60s...Davis CA...a short 1 inch thick asphalt runway, no tower (unicom...just a
radio that continuous broadcasts temp and barometric pressure) and a 'airport'
lounge' which was a small building about 30 feet long, no 'airport'
personnel...just a couple of vinyl covered couches...unlocked by someone in the
morning who came back in the evening and locked it up until the next day...and
closed on Sundays.
Attached is a pic of it...the pic was taken about 40 years AFTER I took my
lessons so the buildings on the left side didn't exist...it was all farm
land...runway's the same though.
It's the only airport actually owned by the University of California which has 9
campuses.

My solo flight consisted of my instructor (WWII vet with over 10,000 hours) who
stops the Cessna halfway down the runway...gets out, stands on the side of the
runway and tells me takeoff, land and then stop and pick him up where he was
standing...
