Can you swap Tost hook levers?

Can you swap out the levers on Tost hooks? For example taking a standard lever off and replace it with a short lever. Or taking a short lever off and putting it on a hook with no lever

Looks like the inner most bold holding on the lever has the spring and all that around it. if you take that out it seems like you pretty much have to rebuild the thing with the spring loading. not sure if thats wise or something we should be messing with? It for sure looks doable, just not sure about doing it.
