Odp: SZD 56-2 DIANA

Finally we can read somebody, who knows something about the subject...
:-)))
A little precision about polish gliders life time policy:
All SZD-gliders had at the beginning 1200 or 1500 hours service life
time. It doesn't mean a lot, because today the Junior (SZD-51-1) has
10 000 hours life time and the Puchacz (SZD-50-3) is in the way of
getting an certified 12 000 hours life time.
Taking that into consideration, there are no fears to have about the
durability of Diana-2. With all experience accumulated by former SZD
engineers and workers (the 5000-th glider of the SZD brand was sold to
a German customer last November) every glider pilot can be confident.
Diana-1 is flying allready for 14 years, with no problem. On its board
were broken 19 world records, from which 6 are still not superseded.

By the way : it would be nice, if opinions - critical or not - in this
thread would be expressed with a little bit more of respect for other
participants...

I could not say it better. I don't have the slightest idea about the
durability of the Diana 2, but when i see the performances they have been
able to attain, which completely smash the concurrence by enormous margins,
i think the first reaction should be admiration and respect. Indeed,
except if enormous blunders have been committed in the construction,
there is no reason to beleive it will last significantly less than other
plastic gliders. The only questions i am asking myself are, will this glider
be priced in the "Ferrari" range, what about his behavior at low speed, notably
with respect to stall and spin. These are points very important for the mass
of pilots, if not the top competitors :-(

6 world records, 5 of which are femine records which in my mind dont count as
there is no logical reason why females cannot compete on equal terms with men
in a glider (and often do).
Compare this with any German manufacturer. When did a SZD last win a world
championship? The Cobra or Foka wasnt it?

In addition to Nicks info, the SZD-48-3M Bravo was made in mid 80's. It
was nothing more then modified SZD-48-3 Jantar Standar 3. This just
proves that ship alone is not going to win medals....it needs a soaring
pilot.
