Hey Guys,
We had 33 pilots flying on US Nightly Soaring last night! More and more folks are getting back on Condor and having a great time.
See report here: https://soaringeconomist.com/2020/03/26/record-numbers-fly-us-nightly-soaring/
If you would like help getting involved on Condor, feel free to reach out to me. It is really fun and an excellent cross country and racing training tool. I am happy to work with people to get them up to speed.
All the best,
Daniel

I’ve only been using Condor for the past 6 weeks and thoroughly enjoying it. Last night was my first multiplayer experience. I set myself up on the Teamspeak channel and found it both useful and entertaining listening to what others were doing. As in real life, some people just natter away on the radio! Anyway, as in real racing I was forcing myself to fly faster than I thought possible only to have my instincts confirmed when I ended up in the trees! I’ll be on again tonight but concentrate on completing the task rather than keeping up. Speed can come later.

Is US nightly soaring based on Condor Classic or Condor 2?
I've a Condor2 setup with a 'head tracker' for panning the screen and a big game quality screen. It performs nicely, but I quickly get bored, and in the past it seemed like a big waste of time.
Now I'm in a 'stay home' state and I'm going to try to get back into it.
1)I'm going to try the Condor2 racing circuit. The competition might make it more interesting and hold my attention.
2)I might upgrade to VR. People were pumped about VR+Condor2 when it first came out.
Now that the buzz has subsided a bit, what do people really think about VR and Condor2? What level/product of VR are people happy with for Condor2?
I'm also wondering if the VR sex apps are any good... but we had best keep RAS focused on Soaring.

Condor2 is the goto version right now.
The racing aspect certainly makes it more exciting and it's much more than just a simple simulator. Good decisions and strategy pay off and the conditions are often quite challenging. Flying with a group and chatting via Teamspeak (USNS) or Discord (TeamXC.us) adds another dimension and helps everyone to compare notes and refine their gameplan.
IR Head tracking is great with a big screen, but the buzz about VR is legit.. I'm using an Oculus Rift S on a Cyperpower gaming computer with a high-end graphics card. The difference is immersion and it really makes the experience more realistic. It changed my entire Condor2 experience and I'd hate to go back to a monitor.
As for the value of Condor2, I've found all of the lessons I've learned virtually translated perfectly to the real world last season when I got my first shot at ridge flying and thermals to 15,000ft with the Utah Soaring Association. (With Bret Hess - the mastermind behind TeamXC.us).

I would like to fly with everyone. I registered, do I need to do anything else? Will I get info sent to me? Or do I just join the multiplayer server at 9 tonight??

Howdy!
Come to the server at 9pm Eastern at http://www.condorsoaring.com/serverlist/?wdt_search=cndr2
Give it a minute or two to show up. The join is open until 9:12pm.
After you fly the task, submit your FTR log to Condor club to get ranked.
You will receive an email briefing one hour before the race.
All the best,
Daniel

Welcome!
At 9:00PM Eastern, you will see a server named "-US Nightly Soaring-" listed at either http://condor.hitziger.net/serverlist/ (near the top) or http://www.condorsoaring.com/serverlist/?wdt_search=cndr2 (in the section named "PacificNW Soaring Competitions" near the bottom).
I host, and I fly at least 50% of the flights. Feel free to ask questions when you're on.

Isn't it necessary to have the task already saved locally on my local computer under the flight tasks folder?
I believe that's the only way the turn point show up on the flight computer in the virtual cockpit.
Or is that wrong? Typically in the other group I fly with the flight task file is distributed to all participants so we all have the same turn points, etc. But maybe thats not necessary?
Thanks for any information.

Hey Mike,
No need to put the task in; Condor pulls in the data automatically from the flightplanner.
All the best,
Daniel

Having server issues again tonight and got booted 1/3rd of the way into the awesome New Zealand task.
I am trying to refly at 10pm mtn time but do not see the race on the server list. Are you discontinuing the option to refly?
Thx, Jason

Hey Jason,
You can continue your flight in "Free Flight" and upload your trace if your server connection gets disconnected.
The reruns are informal. I think they are not run at set times, but the server restarts when people leave.
All the best,
Daniel

I start a refly every three hours, on the hour, but not if there is someone still on the server. Last night, there was still someone on the (9pm eastern) server (at midnight eastern). So you missed that slot. Hopefully you got one of the reflies today.
Cheers,

So we have to submit our flight track file to get ranked? I don’t see the page for last nights competition

I tried to upload my ftr. file right after day 3 but got an error message that upload not allowed due to already having used the maximum number of uploads or something similar. I get that message every time I try now. I must be doing something wrong. Any ideas?

Hey Ray,
Are you subscribed to Condor Club? If not, you will run out of uploads after 5-10 task per month or so. It says so on the top of the page.

Daniel,
Are you still hosting the “US Nightly Soaring” contest on Condor?
I tried to register today but the Condor Club web site says registration is closed.
Thanks,

Hey John,
There's another group running similar nightly tasks at 9:30EST: https://www.condor.club/comp/show/0/?id=513
We decided to take a break instead of having two competitions at the same time.
All the best,
Daniel
