2-32's are built like tanks...this one looks like it
hit hard...I doubt the backseaters would have survived
this if in a plastic ship.

Reading the story I understand there were three persons onboard. Is that
allowed?

Allowed, and quite normal in a 2-32. It's the main
reason most commercial operators or clubs want one.
I don't know of any other type in which it is allowed
(or practical for that matter).

I'm not an expert on the area, having logged only about 4 hours flying
there. I'm not aware of any waterfalls that can be seen from the upwind
side of the ridge.
