I an Mr Melvins cousin and will pay $1,000 more than his offer
Write him back, get him to send you a cashiers check, then tell him it was not counter signed and get him to send another, then again and again and again till he gives up. The time and postage he spends may just stop him for screwing someone else :)

LOL! Mr. Melvin has been very active, here is what he sent me regarding a Cobra hangar dolly:

1. The full name on the Cashier's Check
2. Mailing Address to send the Cashier's Check

Mr. Melvin.
This is virtually identical to what he sent you, save for changing the item in question. I replied that the ONLY payment I will accept is a wire transfer and would need his address and phone number. I never got a reply.
I have actually received cashier checks that looked like the real deal, but when I checked with who the supposedly came from they were clearly fraudulent. These scammers will NEVER agree to you contacting them by phone - law enforcement can track their location.

What is sad is that there are those who fall for this crap.
Lots of scams aimed at the elderly too.

No wonder they are targeting the Soaring community!

Many governmental programs for seniors were farmed out to foreign bidders and some of those records obviously fell into the hands of scammers. In our computer groups we repeatedly remind seniors never to engage cold callers with any personal or financial information. If you need something, call the appropriate agency. It's also prudent not to call the first Google search result. Type ssa.org into a Google search and the first AD result is likely social security, but that search might be shaped by the user. Happens on Duck Duck Go on another browser also.

All this reminds me of a Seinfeld episode. Kramer responds to an email request for help from a “Nigerian prince“ by sending him the cash he requested. Gerry and the others ridicule him for falling for that old scam. At the end of the episode, the Nigerian prince shows up at Kramer’s apartment to return the borrowed money and hang out with him!

These scammers keep on scamming because it works - at least some of the time. There will be NO GOOD outcome from dealing with these clowns. They have, literally, stolen the life savings of good, if not prudent, people. Making light of the issue not only serves no purpose, but it also HELPS these scammers.

I have also been personally approached with the "Hi Grandpa. I'm in jail in blank and need your help" scam. Of course, he never says his name because that would be a dead give-away. I keep them on the phone for as long as possible because this disrupts their scam.

Amazing, at the levels of income and intelligence in this community some scumbag wants to rip.
Contact FBI, hopefully you stumble upon a creative agent, my elderly neighbors managed to get an entire Nigerian gang captured and put in jail for a long time playing into a scam with help from agents, very rewarding experience they claim.

Just because a genuine relative is in jail does not mean you're
obligated to bail him out.Â* I'd first ask, "Why is he there?", and then
decide if I was going to bail him out.Â* I'd also ask his name unless I
was certain it was him.
