The hoverbike company's report on this incident says "All safety systems worked well. Safety is our main concern." You could have fooled me.

A paragliding safety officer I know refers to this as "Yee-hah, thud" Syndrome. A yell of "Yeee-hah!" is frequently followed by the sound "Thud".

Sorta like, "Hold my beer and watch this."

Yeppers.....my thought......

Safety systems in this video......what systems? The ground?, yep, he didn't keep falling.....ground broke off blades.....yep, they broke rather than slice the "pilot" up.....beyond that...."say what!!!!"...:

CG above center of lift is easy to fix by landing upside down on the test dummy.

Just to make sure , they verified it twice with same result.

The safety system appears to be a really robust test pilot.

Old guys best stick to thermals.

Might end up earning a Darwin Award if they don't up their game somewhat lol

When in doubt, GAS IT!

The exposed and unshielded rotor blades should really help the Dubai Police with crowd control. Until the first "hit," anyway.

And crowd control will now be known as "buzz cut."

.... and maybe also by making the rotor outriggers a bit longer and
angling the rotor mounts so the rotor thrust lines all meet at a point
above the pilot's head ?

Or is that just another stupid idea?

I note that the Chinese personal electric aero-car crowd seem really keen
on using unshielded knee-height rotors. Imagine the effect of a faulty
engine control has the proud owner is stepping out of his flying thing -
can you say "hi-tech salami-slicer"? I wouldn't go within 20 metres of
the thing.

The German Volocopter design looks like a far better bet, the more so as
it can survive loosing a motor or two and nobody has to walk into a rotor
arc: https://www.volocopter.com/en/
