Announcing the 2020 Dust Devil Dash!
First of all, our deep gratitude to Rob Morgan for having originated and run this special event for the last 35 years. This year he passes the baton to Tom Coussens (Z9).
The Dust Devil Dash is a one-day straight out handicapped distance event for sailplanes. Distances achieved during the Dust Devil Dash event are dependent on weather, sailplane performance, and the skill and decisions made by the pilots. Past participants have flown to destinations as far away as southern Idaho, central Oregon and central Arizona.
The 2020 Dust Devil Dash will be held on Saturday, September 12th, at Mountain Valley Airport (L94). All pilots are welcome to participate. All sailplane types, (including vintage, modern, single and two-seat) are included. Pilots are responsible for paying for their own tows and bringing their own chase crews to the event. Camping facilities and aerotows are available through Skylark North. Hotels and other amenities are available in nearby Tehachapi
Spectators and guests are welcome to view the activities as the sailplanes are staged and launched. Please follow all instructions by the staff of Mountain Valley Airport and the event launch team to assure that you do not interfere with the assembly of the sailplanes and the launch of the event.
For more information about the Dust Devil Dash, please contact Tom Coussens at or call or text him at 661-993-3411. DDD Rules and procedures will be emailed about a month before the event.
