What I would like to see in a Sports Class contest

I would like to see KS fly the Duo for the first half and then switch to an
ASW 15 or like sailplane for the second half. It would be an interesting way
to check out the handicap system.

I suspect the results would be the same. Karl clawed his way back from
a land-out to win sports class, last year at Parowan, didn't he Andy?
(Andy was in the lead after Karl's land-out) Of course the rules don't
allow switching sailplanes or even components. You start with winglets
or tip extensions and you must fly every day with that configuration.

A way to accomplish this switch within the rules might be to have two
"teams" flying two gliders. The teams would have the same members (2
pilots), who would switch halfway through the contest so one pilot
would fly the first half of one team's flights and the second half of
the second team's flights. Vice versa for the other pilot.

That will work, now find 2 top pilots willing to engage
in your experiment. Lots of issues involved, not the
least being insurance, instrumentation, time in type,
etc. These guys are out to win, not to engage in academic
exercises.

Like scum on a louisana swamp, you will find the usual
suspects will find a way to levitate to the top of
the score sheet.

Ow. Guess there's no shame in finishing second to
KS, especially by 1%. In any case I learned a lot.

I did skunk all of you on day 2. Was it luck?
