Hello All,
I am looking for a glider DPE in the central Kentucky area. In searching the FAA designee database, the individual authorizations are not delineated. Will need ongoing support from whoever is available as this is not a “one time” checkride. Rather, something on the order of 6 checkrides a year. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Call your local FSDO and inquire who is the Glider DPE in their geographic area. If there isn’t one, and you can show a need, they might/ should designate one.

Yes, of course, good advice but there is a reason why I posted the question.. My local FSDO point of contact for DPEs is out until the middle of September. Thought I’d ask the question here and maybe get a suggestion during this time.

Anybody else?

I am a glider DPE from the Dayton OH area. I do travel or you can fly from Red Stewart Airport in Waynesville, OH. They have a 2-33 for rent.

Hi Robert, Thanks very much. I see you listed for the FSDO in the area. Will contact you in the next week or so. I will check out the Waynesville operation as well. Very helpful, thanks again.

Franklin Burbank is at Bermuda High in SC and travels frequently to give checkrides. DPEs are no longer geographically constrained.

Hi Paul,
Yep, I’m aware of that but it seems that many aren’t too interested in traveling very far on a regular basis. I know Burt C. will travel a significant distance but I need someone in the area for multiple rides.. Kentucky, unfortunately is large void for glider ops and designees.

Don't count me out . . . I just conducted 16 checkrides across the midwestern states, 7 more scheduled later this month in the western states.

Applicants can also travel to historic Marfa (Landmark of Soaring #15) in southwest Texas for a FREE Glider Checkride for PVT, COM, "Initial" CFIG and CFIG renewals or reinstatements this winter or anytime, year-round, near the Davis Mountains and Big Bend National Park.

Let's discuss details and dates, here, there and everywhere!

Just giving back . . . just because.

Hi Burt, I know you are far away. I didn't to inconvenience you too much : - ) thanks though and will keep you on the list. We are still flying our new tow plane on a new airfield and working out operational procedures particular to the area. I suspect the first checkride will be in either October or November. Several to follow until the weather shuts us down.

"History Of Miami Gliders" .... sounds like something I would like to read. Is it a book or magazine article?

It was the straight-out 1-26 flights by Harry Senn and Bourbon Rouse that inspired me to set the Florida Sports Class free distance record. Harry mentored me as to the forecast conditions...the resources don't even exist anymore, presumably because they've been replaced by something better.

Wow the new functionality of Google groups is awful.

You can still return to the old version - from within the settings menu. It will ask you why you want to do that, and that gives you a chance to tell them what you want improved in the new version. My main complaint: no ability to send a private message to the author of a posting.

Just returned to the old format!
