Yup...tends of thousands of people each year according to the records.

I did once, telling them to mail me a cashier's check in the amount of
ten thousand dollars as a gesture of good will, and once it clears,
I'll do business with them. They took me off their list for a while.
I'm back on their list again.

I get about 20 a week in various forms. Very few people do respond I
believe but those that do will find they have to produce more and more
money to keep the possibility going. I did hear a rumour that someone
had 'lost' around 20,000GBP. Any responder could also eventually find
himself being blackmailed for attempting illegal money laundering.
