View Full Version : Acrobatic Homebuilt?

If I read the limitations correctly for my homebuilt, it looks like aerobatics
are out. The verbiage looks like the kind of boilerplate that is used in all
cases. So, are there special airworthyness versions for aerobatic capable
homebuilts? How is this handled with the inspector?

Which scenario applies to you?

1) Did you build this airplane? If you did, you can perform whatever
aerobatics you want in the test phase and put that in the logbook entry when
you finish your test phase.

2) If you built the airplane and it is out of its phase 1 test period, you
can return the airplane to phase 1 testing (logbook entry) and validate
those maneuvers for your airplane through another logbook entry.

3) If someone else built the airplane and didn't write specific aerobatic
maneuvers into the aircraft's phase 1 sign-off, those maneuvers are not
approved for your airplane. Unless, of course, you find the builder and get
him/her to return the airplane to the phase 1 test phase, and sign-off on
those maneuvers.

Acrobatics are done by people. Aerobatics are done with airplanes.
