Not that particular engine but my wife's Subaru 3.6L flat six towed a
Cobra easily. No turbo and subaru claims 256 hp.

When did Cobra start installing Subaru engines?

That was a joke, in case you missed it.

Nope.....I have quite a few towing miles with a 1998 Legacy GT 2.5L NA engine around the east coast (including the Applations) up to a K21 in a closed trailer. No replacement for displacement....
Which Subaru you thinking of?

I've been towing an ASW-27 and others behind 2.5 l Subaru Foresters normal aspiration for several years and thousands of kilometers.

Manual transmission is better than automatic which will downshift to second at 80 km/h if you push a tiny bit hard on the gas + the auto can't really make up its mind on upgrades.

Do check the oil at every gas stop. Inflate the tires to maximum allowed pressure.

DO NOT tow 2-place gliders.

Yes there is - it's called engineering.
My tow vehicles have always been 2L turbocharged diesels (Saab & BMW), and for the last 12 years with 6 or 8 gear automatic transmissions.
Towing trailers from 1100 kg to 1500 kg in alpine terrain over thousands of kilometers - never any worries.
Never checked the oil or water. Never had the auto mindlessly shifting around. Just drive and listen to the music.

I've got that, in a 2020 Outback Touring XT equipped with a factory hitch, and it works great. I really like the power it has.
