View Full Version : new SSA web site

The "new web site" is live, and it is very slow to load, and I can't
find anything... Where did the state records go?
And when I tried to login it made me spend much time training Google's
AI via a "Captcha" - I hate those things with a white-hot passion!
And then it rejected my password. (I haven't typed it in in years as my
browser remembered it.) For each attempt it wanted a new Captcha. Then
I clicked on "lost password". That too wanted a Captcha. Then it said
my "username" (6 digits) is not valid. Neither is my email (another
captcha).
I may never login to SSA again!

Heck, you're doing better than me, I don't even see where to log in!? Why couldn't this wait until Winter?

I got this email response from Alexa Owens, SSA Marketing/Membership
Manager:
"We are launching our new website today and are in testing phase. No one
will be able to log in until tomorrow. You will receive an email from us
about the new website as well as a password reset link. Thank you for
your patience!"
- Alright, so let's be patient for a bit longer. And yeah I didn't see
any login link, maybe that will show up tomorrow. (But I ran into a
login link on some subpage, that's what didn't work for me.)
And pray that the blasted Captchas will go away! At the very least, I'd
like to see a "keep me logged in" option.
Finding things on the new web site design will presumably be difficult
for us for a while, since it's different from the old web site.

*sigh*
First it went live in a broken state with a bad SSL certificate.
Now its live with only partial functionality.
And it looks like old functionality is being preserved on a secondary server that the new one calls out to (opening a popup or frame to access).
*AND* those of us trying to manage contests were left in the lurch as to the location of the tool for that (hint: If you had it bookmarked, replace the first part with "members.ssa.org")
*AND* even if you do figure out how to access the tool, it doesn't appear that updates made in the Contest Management tool are actually reflected on the contest calendar (which itself doesn't appear to be listing all of the events/contests).
It certainly seems like this new website is primarily a marketing effort to provide extra appeal to the public/uninformed; and a bunch of member functionality is being left in the dust or is not being redeveloped/updated simultaneously.
Finally, its *QUITE* goofy to tell people that you're testing your new website and that it will go LIVE in a few days - after it has already gone live! The definition of "going live" means making it publicly visible/available, folks. There are PLENTY of ways to test out a new site's functionality without exposing it to the public...
FWIW, I do like the new look & feel, and the responsive design looks nicer on a phone/tablet for sure. It just could've been handled so much better.

P.S. Yes I know its easy to throw stones when one hasn't been involved in the work - but there are a LOT of us soaring pilots who are in technology who could've helped or advised or offered resources... This is a very amateur-hour rollout that was totally avoidable.

FWIW, I really dislike anything on a web page that "moves" without my
asking it to. E.g., videos, or even slideshows. (And audio.) As a
casual visitor it would drive me away.
Also, the home page as it is now takes "forever" to load with my slowish
connection. That too drives me away.
My advice is to keep videos and such on other pages, behind clearly
labeled links.
If this stays as it is, I'll have to bookmark some less busy entry point
to avoid the home page. Too bad I'll miss whatever announcements will
be on the home page.
I also wonder why the state records info is now (apparently) hidden
behind the login wall. Those shouldn't be secrets withheld from the
public. On the contrary, they should be touted as examples of what can
be achieved flying sailplanes. In the old format, this section showed
very little info on the actual record flights - there should be a
(static) image showing a (small) map of the flight path along with
prominent landmarks the general public can recognize. Since the
record-keeper carefully looks over the flight log, generating such an
image would be a small extra step. (And I'm amazed so many old records
were listed without even the glider type!)

My understanding is that a photojournalist/graphic-designer type person was bought in to make it. From a marketing/aesthetic standpoint its prettier than our old site, and it _does_ look and work better on phones/tablets than the old site.
But yes I am led to believe that the new front page is a Wordpress-based site with lots of plugins and components; which are all naturally going to slow the thing down. :-(
In defense of the SSA Board, we do have a fair number of older members who are not super tech-savvy so I understand why they might have felt that reaching out to the membership about this would invite a backlash before it even began...
However it is *also* true that we have a fair amount of tech-savvy members; many of whom have programmed successful websites, run complex technology projects, and understand how to develop systems that are maintainable and low-cost over the long-term (for example: did we leverage any relationships that soaring pilots have with tech companies to land cheap/free licenses and resources? I know that there is at least 1 soaring connection to the founder of Wordpress. And I myself have helped our local soaring club obtain cheap/free Office365 and Azure licenses that MS is offering to any nonprofit these days. The SSA could use those licenses & credits to keep website hosting and maintenance costs way down - as MS is on a big push to expand is nonprofit programs).
There are some real obvious "misses" here that a small group of technology professionals could have helped avoid.

Wait, am I reading the latest SSA email correctly? We need to reset our password to a new value to be able to log into the new site; but we *ALSO* need our old password/login in order to be able to access/use all of the older/existing systems - even after switching to the new site??

Yup, it says:
"In the next 24 hours you should receive an email with a password reset
link. Once you have reset your password you will be able to log in using
your email address and new password. ...
Do Not Lose Your Old Login For SSA.org
You will still need your login credentials using your member ID number
and personalized password to access the following:
* Soaring Magazine Online
* Johnson Reports
* Contest Registration
* SSA Clubs and Chapter Rosters
* SSA Board of Director and Committee Reports"
- that is really silly, to have to maintain two logins. Why?
And I'd bet the SSA "store" would remain as a third login?
Maybe some of these systems are existing would migrate eventually, but
for example the Soaring Magazine Online is touted as a brand new system.
Why isn't it integrated into the SSA web site per se, with a single login?

No Gene, its not about being overly cranky. I am an IT person, and I *have* been very lowly paid and/or a volunteer (hell, my day job is running IT for a non-profit right now).
There was no reason for the new site to be rolled out like this, NONE. All of the things they're working on could have been tested in-private and tuned/fixed, while the main website continued to exist and function just fine.
But the issue goes MUCH deeper than just how bumpy the rollout is. The organization of the new site bespeaks a lack of careful consideration of features and functionality, or of proper project management. It reeks of scope-creep, and of being driven by art/aesthetics instead of functionality, and of non-technical people in charge not knowing how to vet the technical workers or manage them effectively.

Noel:
I think a number of us on this forum have done a good bit of volunteer work or low paid work for one of our hobbies or something we are passionate about. It is painful to watch others jump in and criticize from the sidelines. For example, One (non soaring) club I am a member of has over 100 members-only about 15 are active volunteers yet we get a surprising amount of critique from the other 85! Forgive me if I am not aware of your efforts to help the SSA but perhaps they could use your expertise, without the side potshots?
See you at cloudbase

Detailed data for each contest is gone, such as priority registration date, competitors, results, etc. Even pertinent data such as what classes are flying is inaccurate at some contests. Then, you need your old login to register for a contest.
The timing for the website change is abominable. Contest management must be pulling their hair out having such an impediment to last minute entries. This could "sink" some competitions this year.

Gack, "frames" are back. I thought we got rid of them 20 years ago!
For example: go to: https://www.ssa.org/event/2021-region-2-north/
and then click on the "register here" link.
(it will ask you to login first, here your old login still works)

time for each page to load, since it's loading pieces from Facebook and
Google etc, is very annoying. "Frames" were universally hated 20 years
ago, don't bring them back! (And don't replace them with a pop-over
either - the new scourge that I hope will go the way of pop-up windows:
blocked by all browsers.) No videos should play unless you click on
them. We should need only one login (without Captcha) for all parts of
the system. And please add a "site map" page. Thanks!

Viewing contest scores should not require a login. Just sayin.

The organization of the new site bespeaks a lack of careful consideration of features and functionality, or of proper project management. It's not intuitive but one can get to the old competition data view with a little effort. Pull down the racing menu from the top of the home screen and then click on the registration button (says separate login next to it). Log in with your old login (Member ID and plus old password). You'll arrive at the registration page. That page has a number of pull down menu choices across the top. Pull down Sailplane Racing, and select racing calendar. This will take you to the old racing calendar view. Select a contest of interest and you can get contestant list, site info etc. Not as easy as the old scheme but I was happy to see I could get still get to the contestant information by a somewhat circuitous path.

Another case of website developer overkill. A 12 digit password and Captcha makes logging on way too much hassle for the limited amount of information I need from the SSA website.

FWIW, I've done a bunch of volunteer work for soaring: Serving on the BoD and acting as Treasurer for multiple clubs in my area. Organizing and helping to run Cross-Country mentorship events (like the Ephrata "Dust Up") for several years. Acting as Contest Manager for our Regionals for several years. Acting as CD for a Nationals contest or two.
I'm also an IT professional who's been a web-developer for both for-profit and non-profit entities.
Volunteer labor is always in short supply and yes there is always a minority of folks who do a majority of the work. I get that.
I do not doubt that people had the best of intentions in their hearts. And I do not doubt that everyone involved sincerely wants a good outcome. I am sure they are nice individuals whom I'd love to chat or fly with.
But none of that excuses poor project management, which this website redesign is obviously guilty of. And well-meaning-but-poorly-executed help from volunteers is not as good as a smaller amount of well-executed volunteer or paid professional work.
In 20+ years of running IT for small businesses and non-profits, I cannot help but be frustrated by so many "rookie mistakes" and glaring problems (*after* setting the site "live" for the world to see). Not when there were better options available, and so many opportunities for engagement with the members who could've provided services or donations "in-kind". Its one thing if the SSA BoD reached out to the membership with a call for help, and then whittled it down to a key group of individuals as a focused committee (to keep the chaos in-check). But AFAIK this wasn't done. Some deal was put together without engaging the membership, and then this new site was sprung on us right at the start of Soaring and Contest season; with major disruptions (which Craig pointed out quite astutely).
There was absolutely no reason for it to happen this way. Its just terribly, terribly disappointing.

Try this:
From the new SSA homepage, mouse over the "Membership" tab. This brings up three options and you want the "Members" Only Resources." Go down to "Member Services" and click on that. This will bring you to a page with "SSA Member Resources." Click on the "Log In" button. That brings you to a login page, for which you use your "old" login info. Login and you will be greeted by your name. Go to the "Home Page" and you will now be in the old SSA website links (the underlay to the new webpage) and will be able to find info you are familiar with across the board - the "old" racing menu, records, calendar, Johnson Report access, etc. As time goes on, the front page should eventually provide a smooth interface to all this.

With newfangled web programming it may look different to different
viewers, but I don't see a membership "tab". In the drop-down menu (the
three lines icon in the upper right) there is a "membership" entry. If
I click on it I get a page with nothing useful. If instead I click on
the drop-down arrow on the right end of that "membership" line, I see
"Members Only Resources". If I click on that, it drops down a submenu
of three items: Soaring mag, member locator, and sailplane directory.
I don't see "Member Services" anywhere.
And in any case, why build a "new website" that is just an annoying
overlay over the old website?
If anybody's listening, here's what I'd like to see:
* a "site map" page with links only (no "media")
* one login that gets you to *everything*
* an option to "remember me" so you don't have to login every time
* let me choose a short password I can remember
* no "Captcha"

I got eNews email from SSA on March 31 and April 1, the latter said to
expect another email within 24 hrs with a password reset link. Never
received that. They said to send feedback to feedback at ssa.org fwiw.
Wonder if it would be possible to revert to the old website for the
remainder of this season, since obviously they still have a number of
issues to work on. It's hard to imagine using the current site with
slow internet, and yes the timing of the changes was abysmal.

I did the following:
Go to https://members.ssa.org/login.asp.
This asks for member ID and password. My information is the same as it has been for years. ID is my membership number and then my old password.
This gets to SSA Member Resources.
Select My Home Page
That gets to much of the original SSA home page. Not all the links are there, but the ones important to me, and contest pilots, are all there and functional.
Some things have not worked. When I have found glitches I have advised Frank Whiteley. He has been very responsive in trying to get them resolved.
When a few of us were consulted last Fall we advised not to mess with the stuff deeper in the site that works because that all is very involved and no doubt beyond what the web site developer consultant will be able to do. My advice was to get the new face working with absolutely the least effect on the underlying functions as possible. It appears that the current situation does the latter.

What Hank and others have said about the members.ssa.org site being a "fallback" option to get to the old site systems is mostly true.
However, the situation is _RIPE_ for confusion because the New website shows an Events Calendar and a Racing Calendar - but the information on those was just copied from the old site at a point in time. It is NOT updating as people change information on the members.ssa.org website.
This means that over time the information on www.ssa.org and members.ssa.org is going to drift out of sync (it already has done so for some events). So visitor "A" will look at an event on the new calendar and visitor "B" will look at an event on the old calendar, and wind up with different information!
As I have said before: I am sure that there was the best of intentions; but this is an absolute mess. Its not about being afraid of change or not liking the new look & feel. Its about the management of the project, the systems, and thinking through how these new systems will actually *work* and be interacted-with by the Membership and the Public.

Hi Dan,
Tried to get your contact information from SSA, no good.
On a total tangent, Do you remember your Mosquito B from 1979, I'm a partner in it since yesterday.
I don't suppose you have the cg release stuff in a box somewhere?

I received the new web site announcement email from the SSA on April 1 saying that in the next 24 hours I would get a link to reset my password. It is now April 7 and nothing thus far (yep, I checked spam). Reading above it seems others have received the link. Am I the only one left in the cold? Out of curiosity I clicked on the Login button (upper right) and all I see is the "Not a member, want to join?" message.
- Yes, the rollout should have been done in the fall, not in the spring, so as not to impact the heart of the soaring season.
- Yes, the first "public" incarnation should have been via an alternate URL..
- Yes, the denizens of RAS should have collectively been asked to test and make comments.
- Yes, the password should not need to be 12 digits long. This is not a bank or the NSA. It's ok to require a special character, upper case, number, etc.
- Yes, impacting low speed access users is bad. Every event I have been to has low speed internet.
- Yes, needing two logins is strange. Must be a two phased rollout.
- Yes, captcha is an annoyance. Hopefully, a cookie is set to remember that I am one of the good guys.
- Yes, not being able to click "Remember me" at login is bad.

Well apparently it does NOT remember my login. Even though this is the
"old web site" section, and the real old web site did remember my login.
So bookmark the login page UH pointed to. At least my browser
remembers my username and password for that login page.
And yes "member locator" is under "News", after you go to "my home

WOW!!!
I just looked at ssa.org and my head is spinning! I guess you gotta be
a teenager with a cell phone grafted to your arm to appreciate that.
I tried "Member Locator" under "News" and didn't find it. I finally
found the member locator by starting at "members.ssa.org" then "My Home
Page" then "News"
My original password worked for that.

I had said above, 'Out of curiosity I clicked on the Login button (upper right) and all I saw was the "Not a member. Join today!" message'. This was using Chrome on an Android phone.
I tried it again on a PC. When I hover over the Login button it shows the "Not a member..." message. But when I click on the Login button I go right to the Login web page (https://www.ssa.org/wp-login.php).
The confusion is when using a cell phone there is no such thing as hovering.. Thus when I clicked on the Login button I get the "Not a member..." message and then I had to click another time on the Login button to get to the Login web page (https://www.ssa.org/wp-login.php).
PS - I was able to login to both the new way (had to reset my password) and the old way to get to http://members.ssa/org and all the good stuff. No Captcha was required.

I just got an email from that says we must reset our password before using the new site. Apparently they sent a link to do this out last Friday but many people did not get it. So they sent it again: https://www.ssa.org/my-account/lost-password/
Clicking on that it was immediatly blocked by my ad blocker, Ublock Origin. It says that the website is also opening "icptrack.com". Googling that tells me that " This address is a tracker for a mass email sender." Now why does the SSA need to TRACK who clicks on this link?
Another comment found says that "WARNING: Caution. This site participates in fraud and scam. The site is listed, verified and confirmed as a phish on PhishTank. http://www.phishtank.com/index.php " Come on SSA, you can do better than this!

I just got a reply from the SSA (Alexa Owens) and she apoligized and sent me this link: https://www.ssa.org/my-account/lost-password/
which looks identical to me to the one they sent. But somehow, this one does not have the Tracking problem the first one had.
Maybe they shut off the tracking requirement??

So have others been successful in setting up a password per the instructions sent out today? I've tried 4 times now over the last 2 hours and I've yet to receive a password reset responder email. Yes, I've looked in spam and nothing is there either.

A personal view from across the pond:
Have you (Soartech) passed this information on to SSA, just as I would
pass similar information to the BGA?
If not, you should do so, because they need to take steps to get off the
phishtank.com list and would be well advised to get off anything like
icptrack.com as well - unless, of course, they're planning to raise some
cash by spamming or letting others pay to do so.
Personally, I take a dim view if spammers and run Spamassassin at home to
(a) bin spam automatically and (b) to keep tabs on those who try to spam
me. But of course ymmv.

A link in a web page has two parts: the visible text label, and the
(invisible) URL it links to. A link, such as that in the email from the
SSA, that shows the URL is supposedly leads to, actually has two URLs:
the visible one (sometimes misleading), and the invisible one it
actually links to.
The reason you may get warnings about "icptrack.com" is that the SSA
chose to send these mass emails by using a service, "iContact". It,
like MailChimp, ConstantContact, etc, converts every link to a trackable
one. In this case the visible URL is:
https://www.ssa.org/my-account/lost-password/
but the actual URL it leads to is:
https://click.icptrack.com/icp/relay.php?r=50325714&msgid=283717&act=4O8F&c=1536658&destination=https%3A%2F%2Furl.emailprotection.link %2F%3FbJoMkgTymqcTLusKni6...
(lots more gobbledigook).
In theory your clicking on such a link can be tracked, although I doubt
in this case the SSA will use that feature of the iContact service.
I hate such links because I don't want to be tracked, and also you don't
know where it is really taking you, after the tracking bit.
But in this case you can copy and paste the visible URL from that email
into your browser and get to that page without being tracked.

I've been using the Brave browser for the past 3-4 months. I just
opened a new tab and was told that 65,786 trackers and ads have been
blocked. I still get a lot of spam; how it gets past my spam blocker, I
don't know, but I'm going to have a look at spam assassin.

What does your mail chain look like? I ask because Spamassassin is
probably not a good fit if you're just running a mail reader on a Windows
system. On the other hand, your ISP may be running Spamassassin and
filtering out obvious spam, i.e. mail from a known spammer (there are
lists of these...).
SA is designed to handle quite high mail volumes and is usually put into
the path messages follow through a mail server, something like this:
|--> mail reader
ISP --mail in-->Mail server -->|--> mail reader
| Y |--> mail reader
| |
| +--> spam -> quarantine
| |
V ^
Spamassassin
All SA does is to inspect an email and assign it a score by applying a
set of rules to its content. The filter looks at the spam score and
conventionally says anything with a score of less than 5 is ham and
anything over 5 is spam. The filter is separate because everybody has
different ideas of what to do with spam: some bin spam, others block spam
senders, while others treat it as undeliverable mail and return it to the
sender.
My filter puts spam in quarantine for a week and sends me a daily report
of any new spam so I can look at it in case it was misclassified as spam.
In this case I can fish it out of quarantine before it gets deleted.
Other people, who are usually UNIX or Linux users simply pass everything
to their user's mailreaders. These use a program, procmail, to look at
the spam score and use that to decide whether the message is shown to the
user or binned. This is useful in a business where different folks get
different mail streams and have differing spam tolerances.
Sorry about the length of that, but mail handling can be quite complex
and its not necessary to understand much of this stuff unless you run
your own mail server - and nobody who just uses an Apple or Windows PC,
iPad or phone will be running a mail server.
I hope its useful info.

Just got an email reply from SSA. They said to hover over the Racing tab and the Tracker should appear. Well when I use Chrome the sub-menu does not appear. When I use Explorer the sub-menu does appear but crashes when I click on Tracker and I get a message that it is not supported and to use Chrome. WTF!

I didn't get the link originally, but today more email from SSA got
through. Had the same redirect of the link for tracking.
Reading email with Thunderbird, you can hover over a link and it shows
the hidden information, which usually indicates a scam of some sort when
used.

Understood.
I've not used Thunderbird for several years, so don't remember whether it
can use SA spam scores or not, but what I was trying to show is that
installing SA is not a trivial exercise and that it usually works best if
you're running your own local mailserver.
These days I'm using Evolution as my mailreader. It has a built-in
appointments diary and a todo list - I need both!

I got the second e-mail about the password reset. try to use my original password. No go. Not Strong enough. Is some evil hacker waiting to use my weak password to log in and read the Johnson test flight articles without paying. Or maybe they want to sign up for a contest under my name. What F*cking Bull****! maybe I don't need the SSA.

I think that the reason for the extra password security (and maybe the two passwords) has to do with the privacy issue of we can see names and addresses of members, and/or, ordering and credit cards.
To fulfill the 12 character password requirement I just used my old password twice! Simple!

The SSA tracker is just a 'friendly' front end on top of glideport.aero,
which adds some branding. I've always had better luck going directly to

Funny though, the two ways to look at the same tracking show things with
different units. Glideport shows elevations in meters, and the SSA
overlay shows it in feet. Clearly the underlying tech allows choice of
units - does anybody know how to do it from the user interface?

A small number of people put a lot of effort into the soaring community to benefit all of us. Sure John has some good points, but the site looks much better and will only get a bit better as the rough edges are worked out.
I would like to thank all who worked on this site and suggest that there are a number of new "volunteers" whom have posted their ideas, criticism and outright damnation. Please contact the SSA office with your donation of time or money to bring the site up to your particular needs. Ask yourself "what would Tom Brady do?", complain or act?

Logged in? What's that? I don't want to have to login every time just
to look at flight tracks. Anyway, tried now, couldn't figure out my
password. Clicked on "reset password" (this is in glideport.aero) but
the promised email never came in (and yes I checked the spam folder). I
know I put in the right email address because other addresses say "no
such user", and also I see the email address in my IGCdroid configuration.

Been using it for a month or two. In general its good, especially its
built-in ad and tracker-blocking features, but there is one annoying
gotcha:
If you're using Brave to check the look of a new web page while you
tweak images on the page, DON'T - use Firefox instead.
This is because Brave is decidedly lazy about updating buffered images:
they only get reloaded after a delay of a minute or two. The result is
that making a quick change to an image on a page you're editing may not
show up when you refresh the page.
Apart from that I like Brave a lot. It has now become my default mail web
browser.

Jon -
1) Some of us *have* contacted the SSA, and heard nothing but crickets (remember that notices to the membership went out only *after* the site went live and many folks started contacting the SSA to ask why things changed and/or were broken).
2) Part of the frustration is that this seems like it was NOT spearheaded by a "plucky band of volunteers" who are part of the membership. I have been led to believe that an outside person was hired for this, and the project was run quietly (perhaps deliberately so) by a small number of leaders in the SSA organization without consulting the wider membership or publicly asking for a committee of qualified individuals to provide input and control.
3) The members have every right to be skeptical/critical given the lack of clarity on how this happened, why it happened, what the ultimate goal is, and what considerations were given to the launch timing, project scope, and the existing website tools.
Anyone who's been involved in technology and project management understands the serious importance of things like scope control, communications with stakeholders, and transition plans. All of these things were distinctly lacking, based on what we've seen so far.
When you fail to build buy-in or explain you goals & purpose, you set yourself up for this kind of blowback & criticism. There should be ZERO surprise about how this is playing out, based on how the project was handled! The complaints aren't simply a knee-jerk response to an updated look & feel. And they aren't criticism of some poor volunteer slaving away. They're an indictment of leadership and management - and rightly so. This doesn't mean the folks in charge of the SSA are "bad people" (I personally like many of them). But it does look like they're out of their depth and did not exercise proper control or bring in the proper expertise to manage something they themselves weren't qualified to do. And hey, its OK to not be well-versed in large-scale technology projects - but if that's the case then you need to put out a call to find someone who _is_ qualified (especially when there are several folks on the SSA membership roster that fit the bill).

Jonathan,
Yes, "Act" is the correct answer of course. The new site is a great step forward and I hope that this brings more power pilots, or non-pilots, into the soaring game.
As an involved volunteer at my club for 20+ years I know personally about those that stand on the sidelines and harp - we call these people "pockets" (hands always in their pockets watching others keep the club going).
My thought is that I would have loved to have been involved in the beta version efforts and helped as a tester. I suspect that others in RAS-land would have also gladly made the same offer. Maybe we would have had zero suggestions after getting involved and understanding what went on behind the scenes.
My $0.02.

Yes, the link is in members.ssa.org, but when I try to access it, I get the 404. Other links on the page work OK.

The rules link on the ssa.org site takes me to some weird dropbox link:

On https://members.ssa.org after logging in, click on My Home Page, then on the Sailplane Racing menu, click on Contest Rules and Process. Don't click on Sailplane Racing at the top as it will redirect presently.

So, trying to fill out my paperwork for Region 2 Contest using the link emailed to me when I did the initial, online registration. You need to sign the application, but the link in the email returns a 404 error. I tried logging in and going to the Contest Registration section, but that looks like it ends up with a re-registration (i.e. starting over). I just need the completed PDF(S) so I can sign them...

Yes, its definitely in a partly-broken state. You can start a contest entry form; but it won't complete and you also cannot look up your form if you previously signed up (either as a normal contestant or via the Contest Administration system at https://members.ssa.org/cde/login.asp )
Anyone have an idea of who to contact at the SSA to look into what's causing the problem?

The link worked fine on your entry submitted around 7PM EDT yesterday. Worked fine on this morning's re-test.

Quick update on the Contest Registration / Forms issue:
Thanks to Frank for some quick investigation, he and I have confirmed that these systems appear to work on Google Chrome. MS Edge (despite being Chromium-based) does seem to be having a problem; not sure about other browsers yet.
But for now it is likely that people can successfully enter/view/edit Contest entry forms if they use Google Chrome to do so.
Take care,
