John,

Very nice pics but are captions in the works? Would sort of like to put
names with the faces and planes.

The lack of captions is to encourage you to go the fly-in and meet
them in person :-)

Looks like it was another fun fly-in. I miss not being able to go,
now that I have to work for a living again.

I'll see that you get copies. You can try to get them autographed when
you run into Zoom and Juan at Oshkosh :-)

Nice to see that people are keeping up the tradition of bringing at
least one broken airplane to the fly-in :-)

Sorry I couldn't be there this year; due to a friend inconvieniently
deciding to get married in August instead, all my vacation time is used
up. Next year I'll block it out in the calendar at least 6 months in
advance!

Considering the title and thickness of each book, I'm thinking that
most of the pages are blank, and the rest only have one letter each.
I'll be sure to watch for them in the remainder bin. Does anyone know
their BTU value?

Good to see the BD5J finally airborne! Very professional Photoshop job
getting rid of the sawhorses too.

I look forward to visiting in person again Gene. See you there.

I don't mean to upset your wife, but I just finished version 1.1 by
adding captions and another dozen photos.

potato gun catch and thumb hanging are kid stuff.

At our initiation in 1998 we were forced to drink MuzzleLoader. Yes, we
were FORCED. Fortunately I survived, unlike Bob who died. A funeral
service was held. Bob didn't even wake when we put the flowers in his
hands.

After many hours Bob spontaneously came back to life and asked "Did I
miss lunch?"

Good job, John! Thanks.

If only this wasn't when school was almost out, but I understand why it is
when it is...

If someone is headed that way from NC by plane next year, and has room, let
me know.

Hi John

Thanks for posting those.
I was booked to come in 2002 - then we had the massive fires that saw
230 homes burned and I had to cancel - my home was the last one standing
- but badly damaged - we're still fixing that damage.
Hopefully I can attend next year - ya couldn't move it a bit west could
you :)?

Swapping out the oil quick drain, under the supervision of Michael.

It's an Arrow, and they have to have special quick drains that
won't interfere with the nosegear. The one that was there needed
a special adapter to open, and the adapter didn't come with the plane,
so Morris (it's his Arrow) found a different style.

I was putting it on.

'Course, it could just be that "under the plane, covered in oil"
is my native habitat....

It was just an overly complex oil change. She was putting in a
new quick drain.

She was just showing me how it's done. We had this long conversation
about it and I kept asking what she was torquing about, so she
decided to show me.

As it happens, I was busy safety wiring the oil filter while she was
safety wiring the drain valve. The fact that it took about the same
amount of time to do both says how much more difficult it was to wire
the drain valve.

What is this copyright thing that you speak of?

Seriously, I'll give due credit.

I have pictures that use this thing called film.
Once things develop, I'll add to the collection.

Well, in which case it was at least slightly broken :-)

Don't worry, one year someone roofed a Cardinal on the way up to P'ville
when the engine decided that internal combustion was overrated, and
being a windmill was better.
The first year I visited, someone groundlooped a Stearman. We've seen
brakes fail locked *on* on a twin (only on one side of course, just to
make the landing a little more exciting), window catches failing
resulting in an OAT probe going through the fabric, a Mooney that
ejected a cylinder on the way home (but managed to make a forced landing
at an airport). Good job there's always at least a couple of A&Ps at the
fly-in with the number of broken planes that seem to come and go :-)

Of course, if no one brings a broken plane with them, Highflyer has
plenty in his hangar to go around <g>

By that definition, all planes are at least slightly broken.
