View Full Version : Memorial Day weekend ruined

May 31st 05, 06:35 PM
All day long heard private plane noise, couldn't
have my usual barbaque outside, drove me crazy.
Had to go inside, cook ribs inside with loud music
playing to drown out the plane noise.

Why not cook outside and get the loud music from an iPod?

May 31st 05, 06:40 PM

The noise is driving us all crazy!!!

May 31st 05, 06:43 PM

Some faster than others, it seems.

May 31st 05, 06:46 PM
When I go outside, I expect peace and quiet. I can control
all noise except what flys above me. I should not need
to use an iPOD when I go outside. As a last resort I use
one, when I go outside to pick up my mail.

Can you describe where you live Roger? Did you just move in? If not,
is this something new?

Were the airplanes especially low, or are you underneath a runway
departure corridor?

Thanks, Corky Scott

I thought he was just another pilot complaining because he couldn't go
flying himself.
Me, my wife let me go flying with a female pilot friend on Sunday.

I am going crazy too. All weekend I didn't here the beautiful sound off a
Lycoming or continental engine. Hopefully next year I will have a house on
the airpark and I can watch and listen all day to the airplanes.
Its all a state of mind.

I have some time today to make some noise here on Usenet, then I am going to
go fly my airplane!!!!! Where is your house?

Oh!!! Why did you buy or in your case rent a house by an airport? That
airport was probably there before you were even born. What about your

Does it matter?

If enough people complain that he's a jerk, eventually his boss will slap

He appears to be doing this on company time.

Do you own National Semi-conductor stock? He's stealing from the company.
He's being paid to work, not complain about airplane noise.

I have the "ruined barbecue" argument numerous times from the
anti-aviation crowd. Is there a handbook out there that describes things
to complain about?

I fail to comprehend how a few airplanes flying overhead can "ruin a
barbecue". Does the meat not cook properly? Do the drinks not taste
good? Is the pool not the right temperature?

Maybe "Roger" is drinking too much and dreaming up ways to express his
class hatred of those of us who fly.

The weekend bikers are far more annoying to me than the tow planes from
Minden (KMEV)gaining altitude over my house, the various firefighting
aircraft, and the twin engine seaplanes and other twin radials. I always
look up at the airplanes to try to link the sound to the plane.

Even though I'd rather not hear v-twins early on a weekend morning, I am
friends with my weekend biker neighbors - and they tend to only warm up
their bikes long enough to get going.

I just about chose where I live because of the airplanes!

A little thin skinned are we? Be careful what you ask for since you might
just get it. More than likely, for every one person who complains about
aircraft noise while using company computers there are hundreds more who are
making positive aviation posts. Cut off one and you have to cut off them
all.

I remeber a while back a developer put houses along one side of a hog farm,
only to then start complaining that the hog farm smelled like, well, a hog
farm. It all got dragged through the courts and in this case the farmer who
had been in business for years won out. Little sympathy for the people who
complained.

The same should be true of people who build or buy near airports, there is a
strong possibility of aircraft.

You're right.

In fact, in reaction to your suggestion I have just severely chastised

One more transgression like that, and I'll be looking for another job!

In my case, it would be a good idea to "inform" my wife, so it does not
appear as though I am trying to "hide" anything, but that is all. Our
relationship is built on 100% trust.

Plus the fact that she states every once in a while (usually right after or

I recall another story in which they can't find the murder weapon. In that case,
the murderer took a large icicle down during mid-winter and stuck it in the
freezer. Then he used it as a dagger in mid-summer and let it melt.

Then there was the one where they couldn't find the body and the only clues were
that the supposed murderer bought steak sauce by the case and chopped a lot of
wood (but we won't go in to that one). :-)

Interesting what inspiring material a teenager could order through the
Scholastic Book Club. Really prepares one for life.
