I don't see any mention of the incident here:
http://www.faa.gov/avr/aai/iirform.htm
Have you got any more information like the aircraft registration
number?

Larry,
The plane was out of Ft Payne Alabama local airport, a Cessna #N5527M
is most likely the reigistration number. Not on the plane which is
strange, but on the key tag to the plane. I would appreciate any help
you might be able to give me.
Thanks,
Linda

If you are a journalist, please have your story read by a competent
pilot before submitting it for publication. We in the pilot community
find that most aviation related news stories contain a
disproportionate number of inaccuracies.

Larry,
Many thanks. Spoke to him last night. A lovely man who was very
concerned for the boy. But I would like to speak with the boy and his
family. Will keep trying. Thanks!

You're welcome.
From your comment, I infer you were unable to learn the boy's name;
how about the licence plate number on his mother's van?

Larry,
No pix or reports of that. Still trying.

Hmmmm, try hoofing it into the police station and request to see the logs.
Yes, he's a juvie but in most states the logs are open to public scrutiny.
You already know your rag's policy of publishing names, right?

Boy, 14, Steals Cessna for Joy Ride
Thursday, June 16, 2005
FORT PAYNE, Ala. — A 14-year-old boy stole a Cessna (search) and went on a
late-night joy ride, taking off and landing twice before being arrested,
police said.
The teen suffered minor cuts and bruises on the second landing because the
plane came down hard, causing the landing gear to collapse and the
propeller to dig into a road beside the airport, police said.
The teen allegedly took his mother's van from their home Wednesday night
and drove to the airport in Fort Payne (search) about five miles away. He
said he then found the key in the unlocked plane, removed the Cessna's
tie-downs, started the engine, and began driving around.
"The next thing he knew he was in the air," Police Chief David Walker
said.
The teen, who police said had never before flown a plane, was in the air
for nearly 30 minutes.
Police charged him with theft and took him to a juvenile lockup. The teen
was not identified because of his age.
Authorities said the theft raised questions about security.
"We've never had a problem before with planes being stolen, so I guess we
have been a little lax in our security," said Larry Noble Cowart, who owns
Valley Aviation (search), which runs the airport and owns the plane.
Cowart said the teen could have entered through the typically unlocked
airport gate or climbed a fence.

Whether it is appropriate to call the teenager a pilot or not given
Webster's definition of the word 'pilot' seems moot. Note 'c' in that
reference: "one who flies ... an aircraft."

Hmm, good idea but it would be a "hoof" of about 1500 miles.
