Hello! Here's a bit of aviation-historical news:
http://www.pelastamalmi.org/en/bulletins/wmf2005.html .
Historic Helsinki-Malmi Airport, Finland, has been reselected to the
global List of 100 Most Endangered Cultural sites by the World
Monuments Fund.
A landmark from the dawn of commercial aviation, Malmi Airport has
been uniquely well preserved in almost exactly the same size and
shape it was more than 60 years ago - down to the original runways
unsuitable for anything much bigger than a DC-3, a spaceous hangar
designed for 6 Junkers Ju-52's at once, etc. Today it is by far the
busiest general aviation airfield and pilot education center in the
country.
The historic airport is threatened by suburban sprawl: the municipal
decision-makers want to close it down and build residences for 10.000
people in its place.
