View Full Version : OSH RAP party

Morgans

I have some bad news concerning the party at Jay's plane, at Airventure.

The MOAG (mother of all grills) will not be able to make the trip. The
powers that may be, in the Explorers leadership have strongly discouraged
pulling a trailer while transporting explorers personnel.

So now, what will plan B involve, and what will be the menu?

Sorry everyone, I was looking forward to a big pig picking, but unless we
can arrange another cooking unit, I don't know how that can happen.

Any ideas, everyone?

We rented a pig-size BBQ in the Southern tier one summer.

If I remember correctly, the price seemed reasonable. The
BBQ place also supplied the pig.

Dunno if Osh would have any similar party services.

I will have my gas grill there. About 1 sq ft of grilling space.

That would require a REALLY small pig! <g>

Montgomery/Burns has you covered :-)

"And the Spruce Moose will take us there."

Either 2 normal grills will be there again this year, or Jim Burns will have
his "humongous" grill there Wednesday night - if it fits in the minivan or
some other vehicle. (Jim and I will figure it out in the next 30 days)

Menu will be mostly the same as last year except individually packed steak
packs instead of raw hamburgers. Also, pre cooked bats instead of raw brats.
BS chicken breasts will remain the same.

Oh, Jim Burns will be providing all things potato!! 'Fresh out of the
ground' potatoes. Mmm, good.

Mr. Burns: You know Smithers, I think I'll donate a million dollars to the
local orphanage . . . When pigs fly. (Both laugh as an airborne pig suddenly
"flies" by, having been ejected from the Simpsons BBQ.)

Smithers: Will you be donating that million dollars now sir?
Mr. Burns: Mm . . . No I'd still prefer not.

Flying rodent about the size of a rat........my guess is not chicken.

More like squirrel.

Why do men's hearts beat faster, knees get weak, throats become dry,
and they think irrationally when a woman wears leather clothing?
Because she smells like a new truck.

Hmm... dunno if it's humongous, but I also don't think it will fit in our
Tahoe, so we may have to gather up volunteers for several smaller grills....
and my wife is looking for volunteers to help her dig the fresh potatoes...
I figure I have to grow them, she can dig them! (duck!... dang that
smarts!) :))

Bats aren't rodents.

(Just taking up for my fellow flyers).

Don't feel too badly, Jim. I had been having nightmares about the MOAG
parked next to Atlas, leaving a tell-tale column of black smoke rising into
the evening sky, easily marking the location of our campsite for the EAA
gendarmes...

It may be just as well that we don't push the envelope so far as to include
a pig roast on a camp site that is labeled "No Open Fires"...

:-)

And kudos to Montblack and Jim (Burns) for stepping up. It sounds like
we've got the grill situation well in hand!

The party must go on!

Jay...

It would be an "open fire" if the lid was closed. Would it?

Randy (Who would really like to get to OSH again someday (its been 16
or 17 years) - but its not in the cards this year.)

Correction....

I typo'd : it should have read "wouldn't be an "open fire"....

My apologies.

Right. If they allow small grills, there is no more risk in a big grill,
once you think about it. The big thing is, that gas fumes are heavy, and
follow the ground, and up, (even when enclosed) to 18 inches. As long as
the burner is higher than that, no problems.

I'm seeing a towering (Carmen Miranda) fruit-decorated headdress, from a
distance, making its way through the throngs on the flight line at OSH, the
owner's hand occasionally reaching up and plucking a piece of fruit off the
side of his hat.

No, I fully expect to go back to my former, unhealthy eating habits for the
week I'm at OSH. Where the heck would I find fruit on the field, anyway?

It's kind of too bad. I'm down 21 pounds, never hungry, feel great, blood
pressure is normal, and I haven't taken a Rolaid/Tum/Prilosec in over a
month (after damn-near living on them every night) -- but I suspect I'll
have to stock up on them for OSH...

Tooting your own horn there Jim? :-)

Please, "No Smoking" by the tents.
Because of the fuel in the planes?
Sure... that too.

Wednesday evening, after the airshow.
(In case you make it there a day early)

North 40 Camping:
Get Jay's campsite # from the main N40 building - where the school buses
drop you off.

Jay Honeck (Iowa City) Pathfinder N56993

Bring a folding chair - or not.
Bring something to drink - or not.
Bring an appetite.

Don't wait too late (like after the airshow) to go to the N40 building,
because it will be closed IIRC.

Yep. Best bet is to stop in the N40 building the day or two before, and get
our campsite nailed down.

Unless something goes terribly awry at the inn, we'll be in OSH on the
Sunday before the show starts...

Jay,

Most people live by the two universal truths of Death and Taxes.

I, however, must also abide by a third (albeit personal) universal truth and
that is:

Sporting events happen on weekends (and the corrollary: Sporting events are
televised.)

Unfortunately, NASCAR rules my world such that if they're racin', I'm
workin'.
Fortunately, If I'm workin', I'm earnin' !!

My time comes between Thanksgiving and February ... that's the magic time of
year which equals my hiatus.

I will be with you in spirit, if not in spirits. Perhaps next year I can
attempt to plan farther in advance and will be able to offer up (if somone
has an empty seat) a level of pilot experience beyond "ballast" so I can
make both the RAP bash and the big show at OSH.

Regards and thanks for the invite...
