How's the flying weather for your pool party looking? Noon on Saturday. All
directions?

Reason I ask is, I was just over at Golden Wings Museum this morning to pick
up any extra cargo they need hauled over to OSH. They have things set out on
folding tables for each plane.

The gang had just gone up for a quickie pilot check-out flight and a photo
shoot of the Bushmaster Tri-Motor, ten minutes before I got there.
Photographer was in the 1930 Stearman YPT-9 (Cloudboy).

We got hit by a fast moving storm five minutes after I got to the museum -
WOW. Straight line winds, heavy rain, lightning, more wind, then a short
downpour, hey ...where did that green sky come from? You get the picture.
Very fast moving line. It's still making an effort two hours later - still
raining, but dying down. No hail, but I bet some neighborhoods got nailed.

Anyway, no planes returned to ANE (Anoka County-Blaine - MN) from the photo
shoot. Hope they made a run for it!!! Maybe into Central Wisconsin.

Speaking of setting Tri-Motors down in farmer's fields(???) ala the National
Air Tour in 2003...

....one out of five Tri-Motors looks like a no show at OSH this year. 1936
Stinson Model A - low wing.

Gear collapsed on the taxiway earlier this month. Jackscrew snapped?? They
really wanted that plane at OSH this year - recovered the plane, repainted,
engines - everything ...now this. Drat! Double drat!! Tri-Drat!!!

Hope your Pre-Oshkosh Pool Party is going well. Hope folks can get to it -
including those two intrepid soles flying their planes in from California.

Hopefully I'll bump into you folks on Sunday in the N40.

Just toddled in after the pool party finally wound down -- it was an
outstanding success, with a great turnout! We cooked tons of brats,
burgers, hot dogs, and (of course) many cases of beer. The pool was
absolutely packed all day -- after OSH I'll post some pix.

The weather here was very humid and (later in the day) quite hot -- but no
storms. We had a few guys late to depart this morning, due to the line of
storms that rolled through your (and Jim's) area. They all departed about
the same time, setting a course for Minneapolis to get around the backside
of the system.

Their plan was to fly north until it looked clear to the East, and then hang
a right. On radar there was huge gap between storms, so they *should* have
made it. Hope they did!

The weather from the West was fine, and Jim & Gail and Jack and Steve made
it in just fine. Edwin and Jim made it up from Louisiana, and a bunch of
other non-newsgroup folks made it in from all points West without
difficulty -- although the visibility sucked.

All in all today was a great prelude to tomorrow -- we're all (like, five
planes) going to try to depart together, and fly in so that we'll all be
parked relatively close together. (Although, of course, Jim & Gail will be
in the Vintage area, far, far from the North 40...)

I hope to see many of you at our campsite on Wednesday!

Ack. And you claim to be a beer aficionado? Why it the world would you
cook your beer?

I know some people like their beer room-temperature, but I've never heard of
getting it *warmer* than that!

But at least it sounds like it was the good kind of loooong. :)

(and in your defense, beer is often cooked...just not by itself...I'm sure
that's what you actually meant :) ...the brats had cases of beer in them,
right?)
