View Full Version : What's with this flurry of spam?!?

I'm seeing massive amounts of spam on this group, is this just on my
newsserver or all around? It doesn't show up on any other newsgroups on this
server. My guess is that a subscriber to rah has it's system infected with a
spambot virus... Could everyone check/update their vurusscanner please?

Thanks,
Rob

Karel chose to respond in Dutch, which both he and I have no trouble
understanding ;-)
English translation is that he sees a rise in spam levels as well, also in
other newsgroups but to a lesser extent.

Holidays, beginning of the month, middle of the month and end of the
month are peaks for spam. This was one of those rare months were its the
end of the beginning... ;)

Of course February is the month with the least spam... you do the math :)

First, make sure your e-mail return address is well spoofed, with more than
just writing spam in the middle of it.

I would venture a guess that someone (or you) is using e-bay, google groups,
or one of another million ways to get your address. It only has to be out
there once,..... then soon millions of spam lists will have your info on
them.

Best advise - filter, delete, ignore, or... change your e-mail address.

I don't believe he was talking about email, he said he was seeing a lot
of it on the newsgroup.

Ahh! Reading and comprehension do not necessarily go hand in hand.

I do have an excuse, of sorts. I got in from OSH this afternoon, after 17
hours on the road over two days, with five Aviation Explorers and camping
gear in my van. Let's just say that the souring effects of a couple days of
rain on camping gear and clothes, are not a "fresh" healthy thing to put up
with, in a closed car. ;-o The insanity defense, you know! <g>

Good time, and thanks to EVERYONE who helped make it happen.

I don't see it showing up in Google's web interface so perhaps they
are filtering it.

Or maybe, if you receive the traffic via some email gateway,
you are mistaking spam for rah traffic?

That could well be.

I'm accessing through my ISP's news server. I have checked another news
server as well, and the same garbage shows up there. It appears to be the
same type of message with different titles over and over again. What a mess

If it was that it'd most likely be sending to your e-mail address. If
posted to the group the rest of us would see it too.

Nada here.

Rarely see any thing on the group or address.

Or just create some crap address at hotmail and use that for public
postings and for sites that you register for stuff at...
