I'm going up to Moosehead Lake in September for the annual seaplane
fly-in. Writing an article about the people & planes, land or sea.
Will anyone from this newsgroup be there? Or was there in previous
years?
Thanks!

I'll be there, weather permitting.
I hope to fly up there Thursday after work, arriving just about sunset -
like I do every year.
Last year I had nasty headwinds going up and got there well after dark. Good
thing I didn't ned to set up my tent.

I was there last year with my Amphib Husky. The town is great. The
"show" was fairly minimal, but they did it. There weren't all that many
interesting planes last year, but that varies from year to year. A lot
of people didn't make it last year becuase the weather the 5 days
previous was IFR. The weather was fine for Sat and Sun. But if you are
interested in Seaplanes you should go.

Do most people camp on the field?
(Most land-plane people, I mean.... )

3 out of the 4 times I've been there, I camped on the field. Be warned,
there are 2 port-a-johns that everyone share, no showers or water available.
One of the guys on my field drove his motorhome up a few times. He sold the
motorhome, so last year he arranged for his own port-a-john. By the time he
arrived, his private toilet was surrounded by campers. They were mad at him
when he moved it to his site and padlocked it.
There are shuttles for the field down to the lake. I think they ask for a
few dollars donation.
