View Full Version : BT13 down in Lyme NH

August 8th 05, 06:25 PM
A BT13 (apparently a BT13, it was described as a WWII trainer and the
owner/pilot was reported to have been devoted to it's maintenance and
history) went down just after takeoff from a small private grass field
near Lyme NH.

BT13's are so noisy when flying that the failure of the engine, or
large loss of power would be very very noticable, and that's what all
the eye witnesses reported: that the engine did not seem to be making
much power. Some reported the engine popped and then quit.

The airplane was observed banking over the Connecticut river in an
attempt to make it into a corn field. He made the field but may have
stalled high and crashed into it. The wreckage burned. The pilot and
his 10 year old son died in the crash and fire.

I've read some on the BT13 and it was not known as a forgiving
trainer.
