Does anyone know what is happening with these guys lately?
Thanks

Lately??

I haven't seen anything on them for years. I saw a flight demo at the PRA
Fly-In in Mentone, IN back in the mid '90's (seemed a bit touchy relative to
the other experimental helo's as I recall) and haven't heard much about them
since.

Fly Safe,
Steve R.

Not only are they alive and well, they recently won a Kit Planes Magazine
Reader's Choice Award for 2004. They also are a current advertiser in the
Experimental Helo Magazine.

Thanks for the update. I guess I'm not looking in the right places! :-)

Glad to hear that they're still around. Having more choices is always a
good thing.

Fly Safe,
Steve R.

Can you really say "alive and well"? Maybe "alive but slightly ill"?

Stuart Fields Hi Stuart. Nice hearing from you. Last time we met was Oshkosh 2004 at the Safari Tent.

Anyway, I was at PRA Mentone about 6 weeks ago (yes, two Safari machines were there also), and talked at length with a fellow who was flying a bright yellow Ultrasport, and had absolutley nothing good to say about the Ultrasport machines or company. Of course, as with everyone in aviation, I realize he was expressing his opinion only, and we had nothing to compare his comments to, he was quite convincing with his arguments, pointing out the many deficiencies on his machine and what he had to do to correct them.

He flew every day at Mentone, several times, just to let folks have a good look at an Ultrasport.

As for me, I was about 2 weeks away from my heli CFI rating when I got a call to fly pipeline patrol in the Houston area in an old Hughes 269-A machine. Did that for as long as the contract held out, then moved back to Columbus, OH. So, I never did get the heli CFI rating completed. Have decided to get a gyrocopter CFI rating next month, as there is a severe shortage of gyro CFI's around these days.

I just received my copy of your excellent magazine yesterday. Thanks. BTW, you're not planning on going to the Olney, TX, fly-in this weekend (Sep 3rd) are you? I'll be there with bells on!

See you later,

I bet his name is Al Samet, the guy with the UltraSport, and it was a
single seater. Very nice fellow. It spoke with him on the phone many
years ago when I almost bought a kit myself. He installed stronger tail
supports and a few other improvements.

Hi Ed: I'm betting that the Ultrasport that you saw at Mentone was a
turbine powered ship that was also at Oshkosh. We got pictures of the bird
and talked to it's owner and got an earful of the changes he had to make.
This guy said that his ship just looked like an Ultrasport and was about 90%
his and 10% Ultrasport. We are planning on some photos in the November
issue where we will provide some coverage for Homer Bell's Helicopter Meet
and Oshkosh...
Won't make the Olney Tx event, but will be in Cleveland OK Sept 28 for his
Helicopter fly-in that is growing fast. I heartily recommend this one.
Thence the following week-end, we have a booth at Copperstate in Casa Grande
Az.
Love to see you at one of these..
