"The plan drew intense criticism from some, largely because the 440-acre
expansion requires the city to buy and raze more than 500 homes, displacing
about 2,600 residents, and move nearly 200 businesses and a cemetery with
1,300 tombs dating back to the 1800s.
Mayor Richard M. Daley has long pushed to expand O'Hare, saying it would
speed up air travel throughout the United States. A cost-benefit analysis by
the city projected that the project would save more than $12 billion over
nearly two decades by reducing passenger and aircraft delays.
Critics say the city has exaggerated the project's benefits and
underestimated its cost. In July, the Transportation Department also said
the cost estimate was low."

You need to look both those terms up. He is clearly neither.

Drink is the curse of the land. It makes you quarrel with your neighbor.
It makes you shoot at your landlord. And it makes you miss him.

You don't think that a guy who believes that he needs a permanent ADIZ
around Chicago isn't paranoid?
You don't think that a guy who both bulldozes *and* expands airports is
schizophrenic?
You need to find another dictionary.

Paranoia is defined as an unreasonable fear of persecution, usually because of
an unjustifiably high estimate of his own importance. Daley has exhibited neither.
> You don't think that a guy who both bulldozes *and* expands airports is

Schizophrenia is an inability to deal with the real world. The most common
symptom is withdrawal, but that's not usually how a paranoid schizophrenic
reacts. Paranoid Schizophrenics usually exhibit unfocussed anxiety, anger,
argumentativeness, and violence. Often a stilted, formal quality or extreme
intensity in interpersonal interaction is noted. Daley does none of this. Daley
has given plenty of evidence that he can deal with the world just fine. If
anything, it is the world that has problems dealing with Daley.

You need to buy your first one. Or perhaps learn to read it.

True, he's more of a psychopath.

He's just a little short guy on a power trip. If they ever lose the platform
that gets carried around so he can see over the podium he will be powerless.

The project was shut down a couple of hours after it was begun when
surrounding communities took their concerns to federal court. They have
managed to kill 4 previous expansion projects and are going for number 5.

I am absolutely astonished over the pricetag for this expansion.
There has to be a better way for the City of Chicago to spend $15B.
Having said that - as a Chicago area resident - I would love to see a
Western vehicle/passenger entrance to the airport, and more gates.
Nearly every delay I encounter at ORD is related to lack of gates, and
planes getting sent to the penalty box as a result.

I thought a west entrance was part of the plan. How they will get you to
the east side I don't know.

Well, maybe "paranoid schizophrenic" is a bit strong but certainly he is
drunk with power and on the make.

Do you ever have anything nice to say about anyone or anything Honeck?

Sure. Take a look at his posts about flying and anyone who likes it. For
example, check out the thread entitled "Airport Cafe."

The plan also includes 4 parallel runways with 2 perpendicular runways.
Howling crosswinds with icy runways just got more fun......

As long as it doesn't involved the stupid shuttle thingys that Dulles
uses, I will be happy.

Talk of extending the People Mover, or shuttle buses. But first its
the lawyers turn to get rich. I expect most of the parallel runways to
be built, and maybe the southern most rr will be dropped. That one
would eat up parts of Bensenville.

Nothing schizo at all. 99.999 percent of the residents fly commercial,
and
the flight numbers grow each year. Even with no growth, the benefit
from
reduced weather delays is nation-wide.

If you want to reduce weather delays don't use O'Hare as the major hub in
the country. Whoever came up with that idea should have to spend the rest
of their life with Daley.
