So we're climbing out of Prairie du Chein, WI (KPDC) on a beautiful early
fall afternoon. We've just been to the local riverboat's all-you-can-eat
buffet, and Mary is flying as PIC with my 27-year old nephew in the right
seat.
I'm in the back seat with my brother-in-law, and we've just reclined our
seats to a more comfortable F-16 attitude (so I'm not whacking my
Lightspeeds on the ceiling).
The full-stretch legroom, the steady rumble of Atlas' 6 cylinders, the
gentle rocking motion caused by my nephew over-controlling the airplane, the
warm sunshine, full tummy, dry pants....
.....Zzzzzzz....
Next thing I know, we're entering the pattern at Iowa City. Almost an hour
has gone by, and I've enjoyed a deep, happy nap -- in the back seat of my
own plane. First time in over 1500 hours of flying -- who'd a thunk it?
Never thought I'd see the day. Mary laughed and said "So I guess this means
you're finally comfortable with my flying?"
:-)

It's not that we haven't talked about it. However, after serious
consideration of all the mechanics required, we decided that a Cherokee 6
would be the minimum required aircraft for the deed.
On the bright side, we could then use it for "Mile High" stays at the inn!

Sounds like you just came up with a marketing opportunity. It has been done

The difference being in California, you can fly out over the ocean where
no law enforcement agency has jurisdiction. Over the Great Plains, you
run into problems with crossing state lines, multiple jurisdictions, etc.

Make sure your date is older than 17 and you shouldn't have a problem.

Hey Jay,
Did you happen to notice if the fall colors were starting up yet?
I am planning on taking a friend of mine (who is recovering from
lung cancer, he never smoked either) on a leaf peeping tour next monday 10/10.
I'm based at KUGN and was planning on flying to DuBuque and then follow the
river northward towards Prairie du Chein, stop for lunch/gas and then head back
towards KUGN.
Just checking since you were that way recently. Did you see an fall colors?

Not yet! There was just a hint of colors in the trees, but nothing really
discernible yet.
They will pop out pretty dramatically if we get the 30 degree weather
they're predicting for tonight, though. It's a beautiful flight when
they're in "full bloom"...

Things are changing rapidly here. We went from near 90 on Wednesday, to 30
this morning, with high winds. The leaves have changed color seemingly
overnight, and are being ripped off by the wind.
Hopefully the weather will stabilize by the weekend, or there may not be any
fall colors to see this year.

Much the same here in PA. We were 80 mid last week, and this morning we
were 40 with heavy rain and wind. The leaves are getting knocked off
quickly today.

We've had perhaps two days of rain in the last 2.5 months here near the coast in
New Jersey. The leaves are dead already, even if they *do* look green. As soon
as the temp drops a bit, so will they. I expect there will be no color at all
this year. Of course, we don't get the sort of show that NE gets, anyway.
I understand that the situation is much the same in the Smokies near my home
town. The people that make a living from tourism are already wailing and
knashing teeth.
Mr. Dixon. What's the prospect up around Bristol?

It's kind of iffy around here George. Had a dry spell with not really as
cool of temps as you expect. Things have been cooling down now for about 2
weeks, but we had a few days in there it was downright hot. I expect color
but I think it will be alittle later. My banana plant is still outside and
that's strange for October!
